The healing properties of children

One minute your ready to ring their bloody neck and the next they do something so sweet and cute that you wonder how you could ever be mad at them...they have curative powers you know.

Over the last year and a quarter and more particularly in the last 3 months life has been rough and down right painful for me and some how I have survived it. Cant say what the next year holds so I will be making no predictions on my chances of survival, I will however spare you the details. I will say this however, if it weren't for my children I don't know that I would've survived.
As an example of what kept me going, this morning before I am out of bed I hear a lot of clanking and whispers coming from the kitchen. I call to my children to find out whats going on. Sandra,5 , Matthew,7, and Joshua who is 9 years old come into the bedroom. "Whats going on" I ask. Joshua and Matthew say "Nothing Dad" while Sandra whispers in my ear "we're making breakfast for you". At this point Joshua becomes upset and tells Sandra that it was to be a surprise and she shouldn't have said anything. I tell Joshua, "Its okay, its a very nice thing you are doing". At this point Joshua and Matthew leave our bedroom but Sandra Stays back to tell me I should pretend to be surprised when breakfast is served so Joshua will feel better. She leaves the bedroom and a few seconds later I hear a loud whisper from Sandra to Joshua saying "It's okay Joshua. Daddy is going to pretend to be surprised for you"
Children...you got to love them:):)

Mine is 15 now and just like me... (I'm doomed) but I'm right there with ya, kids can make the worst seem to lift away, even if they are the cause of said worst lol :p

Here we are looking at a frog display on our trip from GA to AK :)

My sister in law gave birth to her first child in June. The baby is now giving beautiful big smiles but what I found most moving, and continue to do so, is the way the baby, from the very first, would visibly relax when her mum came into her vision. It's a real privilege to see the mother/child bond demonstrated so clearly.

My girls are in college. I miss them everyday.
I hope the Holiday season and the New Year bring you good health for you and your family and find any troubles you may have being left in the past.

dwarven, i can relate on your statement, my oldest is 14, going on 30, so yea, im doomed also, and she is just like me also, now my other 2 can be just as infuriating, and also as loveable as can be, i only pray every day that the dont turn out to be criminals, or tax collectors. of the 2 thought i think i could handle the criminal, not the tax collector, lololol.

Children really are those thing that keep us going on day after another.
Hope all the bad times go over soon.

Mine are 19 and 16 and within few years they will be living on their own. All i can hope is that we've been able to give them a good start to live their own life the way they ever choose.

Sorry to hear about the rough times. I'll keep you in my prayers. Yes, children can be a blessing. I'm rediscovering that, now that my oldest has given me grandchildren. They're just as lovable and the stuff that tries your patience can be deferred to their parents.

Yaay. Kids are super. I have 2 lovely daughters.

My youngest (3 yrs) was rubbing her plastic sword on the back of a chair. when I asked her what she was doing, she just said 'making it sharp' :). Sometime ago I picked her up to put her in bed and she didn't want to. She grabbed my neck and hugged real hard. I asked her 'what are you doing?'. she lets go, looks at me all cute and says (kid you not) I am ripping your head from your body... :eek: :roflmao:
And now she has taken to sleeping with a rubber martial arts dagger. Some time ago she cried for me, and when I asked what was up, she said that sometimes there would be little monsters in her bedroom. Now, she is a dreamer and a light sleeper, so this happens. Sometimes we have to chase a dragon from behind the curtains. Anyway, at that point I could do 2 things: try to explain that there are no monsters, or give her a weapon to fight them with. I chose the latter. I gave her the knife, and told her she could use it to kill the monsters if they got near her. And I told her that the monsters would not come round anymore because they'd be afraid of her. So now the little boudica is proud as life that she can sleep with her trusted knife :)

And the oldest is a very emotional person which has its good and bad sides. But she is always hugging and kissing and being just lovely. she is the kind of girl whose world consists of pink ponies, princesses and fairy tales. She was in love with the son from the flower shop owners. Got a big 'diamond' ring and all. She was glowing with emotion. Some time ago the flower shop people moved back to antwerp so that was the end of it. Until last month, when my daughter wrote (drew) him a love letter with lots of hearts and kisses. She got one back, and now we are going to the zoo in antwerp on a 'date' :)

They're cute as can be.
As long as they are not fighting and screaming of course :D

My daughter was eyeing one of my WW1 bayonets not long ago... I think she want to learn to use it so she can get one over on me :p Or just beat me over the head with it... haven't figured out what just yet...

Mark, how was breakfast? Was it toast and jam? Pancakes and omelets? Popcorn? Ice cream and ketchup? :D

That would be much better than dying surrounded with laughing adults

As far as my own children go, I guess I am not beating them enough because I am still getting things like this from them. This one will stay in my wallet until the youngest finds it and tears everything in it to tiny bits again (in her mercy)
