any Ar15/M4 fans siting around.

Hello everyone. I've been working on reformatting my 20" AR-15 into a 16" carbine. So I thought I would send a shout out to everyone on SRP and see what y'all think of AR's and M4's and see if maybe we could get a show and tell going. Right now I have a 20" heavy contour barrel, A2 flash suppressor, aluminum textured free float hand guard, fixed stock, and a Tasco red dot (not seen in picture). I'm swapping the 20" to a 16" heavy contour, foregrip to a magpul Moe hand guard, magpul vertical grip, and then later a magpul ubr collapsible stock and ergo pistol grip all in their foliage green.

I just sold a 16 1/2" bull barreled AR to a friend, so I am down to three: 24" RRA Varmint, 458 Socom, and 7.62x54. Still have a couple stripped lowers and a couple complete lowers as well...ABSOLUTELY LOVE AR"S!!!!!

7.62x54? I never heard of it, I knew about .308 (7.62x51) but it sounds amazing. I have a 1946 Mosin Nagant m44 and love it. That thing will shoot 2" groups with iron sights and 60 year old ammo dug up out of some farmers field in Turkey.

It may be awhile before it happens but eventually I'll get the urge, and have the money together at the same time. When that happens I'm buying a .308 AR.

Here's a question for you guys that are familiar with the AR platform/barrels. IF you get a lower and upper for .308 can you simply find or have made custom barrels to swap over to cartridges bases off the 308? (Like 358 Federal, 7-08, 243,...has 338-08 been picked up my a manufacturer yet? I still think that would be one heck of a brush-busting round for everything in N.A. save for brown bear.)

I don't have one yet, but I you could say I'm a fan. When they came out they were generally despised, but decades of warfare has refined the AR15 into a very reliable weapon. It's attractive to those that like to tinker and build, as there are so many options out there it's like legos that make rifles. You can't fault the accuracy of a well made AR and if you don't like the standard 5.56 you can even build it up with several other popular (and not so popular) calibers.

I know there are some people that don't think much of the 5.56 round as well, but then that's like the whole 9mm vs .45 argument. If you hit someone with a rifle round it's going to hurt. IMO it would be rare for most people to need to shoot beyond 200 yards for anything other than target shooting, and the 5.56 maintains good ballistics within that range. It's actually fascinating all the different loads that are now available for it.

What do you guys think about the gas operated AR15 as well as the competition? I've been keeping an eye on the Sig 556 and it's dropped to around $1k for some models.

WHOA! That Socom is a massive round! What is the muzzle velocity on a cartridge like that?

All I can say is that I envy those of you that live in states where owning such fine weapons is not an issue. Even though I'm a police officer, the fact that I live in the People's Republic of California still makes it a PITA. The only time I get to fondle such fine armaments is during our annual recert, or if I take one out for some high risk operation.
