Thanks for all the input.
Since my initial drink I have been putting less ice in my drinks but I'm not in any position yet to remove the ice completely.

I am actually a huge whiskey fan and have tried a lot of them. A good starter whiskey is Makers Mark. It is very smooth not high on the proof 80 I believe. I really like Wild Turkey Rare Breed myself which is 108 proof and it is single barrel not cut with water. Bulleit bourbon is very good as well with a touch of honey 90 proof i believe aka frontier whiskey. Not too expensive
im a big fan of george dickel whiskey. It is easily my favorite between the few ive tried. (jack daniels, gentleman jack, lim beam, johnny walker, old dan tucker which is terrible by the way, glenlevit 14 yr reserve, and a scotch which i cannot remember the name of right now. Mind you i've only been drinking alcohol since october of 2010 as that's when i turned of legal age, but I started out with about a shot of whiskey, four cubes of ice, and way too much coka cola. now I usually just have half a glass full of whiskey, two cubes of ice just to keep her cool, and a drop or two of ginger ale, and if I'm really planning to relax for a while I just fill her to the top with good old GD. I'm actually looking at purchasing a set of glass ice, or whiskey stones so I don't water down my whiskey, I love it cold, but hate that by the bottom of the glass it feels like all I'm drinking is water.
Try some Buffalo Trace. Pretty inexpensive and actually a very nice Bourbon.
Have fun,
Lynn
