    Default Snuff Takers?

    Curious if there are any (nasal) snuff takers around here. I mostly use Toque and McChrystal's snuff. Lately I'm favoring Whisky & Honey and O&G, but I have about two dozen tins that I sample from on a regular basis.

    Yup, dig it! Not long ago, I rolled in on several brands of English snuff and I really like them but even my internet sources here in the states seem to have gone out of the nasal snuff business. Result, no more Crumbs of Comfort, McChrystal's, etc. But I do still enjoy the locally available American nasal snuff (Conwood Peach, Navy Sweet, etc.). In fact, I just took a large bump of the Peach that really helped clear out some goo from a residual cold. Popping PBR now

    Samuel Gawith's Original Kendal Brown is my downfall! I buy it in 500gm tubs straight from Sam's via Paul Green of Green's of Leeds/Smoke-King

    I just wanted to say, heck yah! I was/am a Marine and
    I smoked, dipped/chewed, and in some other countries espescially Germany I've snuffed and until i discovered vaporizing nicotine or e-cigs, I loved it! You get the nic rush of cigs and the energy of Monsters without smell of cigs.

    @Galopede:
    Are most American snuffs similar to W.E. Garrett? I bought some from a local shop but didn't care for it too much. It was difficult to take and didn't smell very good IMO... any American snuffs that I might like?

    Yes, most (dry) snuff distributors that were located in the USA have given up or moved because of PACT. The only one I know that's left is NicotineRush these days.

    However, ordering from the UK is not bad at all. Doing business with Toque and McChrystal's directly is nice because they offer free shipping. Toque is really fast about it for me -- an order typically takes 3 days to arrive. For a wider selection and slightly lower prices, there is MrSnuff -- but you have to pay shipping.

    I've been meaning to try this for some time, but haven't figured out where to acquire it.

    Any shops online you'd recommend? While making recommendations, how about a nice entry level stuff for a noob?

    Thanks!

    Hi jyyan,

    I have to say I've never tried any of the American nasal snuffs so can't help you there. We have such a good selection of British and European snuffs available here in Britain I've never sought the Americans out.

    I tried quite a few before settling on Sam Gawith's Kendal Brown as my main vice! It's a coarse, moist snuff, lightly flavoured and a good one for beginners as it's not as sneezy as the drier, finer snuffs.

    Snake: I can't help on American sources of snuff. As I said, I get mine from Green's of Leeds, UK, who's web site is now called Smoke-King. I can recommend them though I don't know what they are like for overseas sales. No connection other than a satisfied customer. Paul Green at the shop orders my large tubs direct from Sam Gawith's. They arrive from the factory, not his shop. He also sells an excellent selection of the small packs from his shop.

    @snake:
    The four I mentioned above would probably be your best bet. If you want Toque or McChrystal's only, I'd go with their direct shops. If you want a wide variety, Mr. Snuff is the best I know of. Nicotine Rush sometimes has better deals but has less variety -- they are located in the USA though.
    Toque
    McChrystal's
    Nicotine Rush
    Mr. Snuff

    For things to start with, you'll probably want to go for the moister, coarser snuffs as they as easier to take. So you might want to avoid High Dry Toasts (HDTs) for now -- but of course you can always go ahead and experiment if you like. If you need more advice I'd check out the snuff house forums. Might be a good idea to check out some snuff reviews too.

    Both Toque and McChrystal's offer free shipping. I believe shipping from NicotineRush and MrSnuff is about $8?

    Also note that snuff is rather inexpensive, especially compared to other forms of tobacco. You can get a 25g tin for around $5 -- and most users consume only around a gram or so a day.

    Good luck with it. I definitely enjoy it -- hope you do too.

    @Galopede: Whoops, sorry. I meant that message for 1OldGI. Seems it's too late to edit, though.

    @1OldGI: See above!

    Well I'm not sure if it's Okay to bring back a 3 year old dead topic, but I figured that I would rather than starting a new one on the same thing...

    Hopefully there is some interest after the long hiatus...

    Several nasal snuff's that I use are:

    German: Ozona Orange, Cherry, Raspberry and Spearmint along with Gawith Apricot...

    American: W.W. Garrett & Sons Scotch & Sweet along with Dean Swift...

    I have started to make my own by grinding & sifting tobacco three times, turning it into fine to a light coarse texture...

    Right now I have an aromatic (somewhat sweet), Apricots & Cream, Café Mocha & Blackberry Brandy...

    So far each one I have produced seems very good with a nice aroma...

    Oh boy, another one of my OCD focuses. I've got a drawer full of nasal snuff and enjoy it immensely. I just took a good portion of Red Bull to each nostril. If you like some menthol, Red Bull certainly delivers. It's pairing nicely with a coffee stout right now.
