Lot's of great advice here, but if you can find a tobacconist within driving distance that's where I would start. I'm lucky to have one here in my city that's been around since the 1940's, with one of the original owners still working there. I remember one Saturday going in there and talking with him discussing different tobaccos. I was there for hours sampling bowls in my pipe before purchasing.
