I have been in and out of R/C for the past 25 years. Started with the old Tamiya HotShot and raced competitively on the local circuit in the late 80's early 90's and was normally a top 3 finisher locally and top 10 state wide. A couple of years ago my daughter got interested so picked up an Evader for running around the yard and also built a TB01 road chassis from parts I found online and locally. They work great but the ESC went out on both of them so maybe this summer I will replace them and run around the neighborhood with them again.
ESC is a pain sometimes, i had a friend put on half of an upgrade on mine (didn't change the pinion gear), and fried mine, have a new one now though
I used to race as well, but it's been 20+ years ago since I was really into it. It doesn't seem to have changed much since my days of piloting my RC10, Optima, Hornets, and 1/12 scale pan car. The batteries, ESC and motors are different now (I guess?), and the prices are way more reasonable!
My son is only 2 but I might need to introduce him to the hobby soon! I've still got all my old stuff, so would it be compatible? Is there a market for the older cars/electronics if I decided to sell it?
I/son have a Traxxas E-Maxx, a Traxxas Rustler and a Losi Strike. We dont race just bash at a local skate park................ man the Rustler takes abuse.
Well I do fly "rc planes" for a living, does that count?
-dan-
military drones? (my guess, if so, much cooler)
yes, it does count
I have been in and not out, but on hiatus, from RC for the past 8 or so years. I have an OFNA 9.5 buggy that I at first had issues tuning the engine but once I finally figured out the settings it ran great. At that point in time grad school found me and I put that hobby aside. I have a nitro-boat that hasn't been touched in a while because the engine was overheating, it was August and therefore too darn hot to stand at a windless lake messing over a 280 deg engine so that got put on the back burner also! About a year ago I bought a Blade CX3 coaxial electric RC helicopter. That got put aside because of the writing of my thesis, mainly because I slammed it into the ground when the lift fell out from underneath it and I haven't bothered to take it apart to find what is making the main shaft wiggle. Well, those are my tribulations. Once I get settled down I hope to get back into my RC stuff as I really enjoy tinkering and making things go fast!
I got into rc airsoft tanks a couple of years ago, dam things breed, started with one, got eight, more coming and worse still looking at a 1/4 Tiger and a 1/1 Centurion .
Cheers
