Anyone shooting .50 BMG target rifles?

We can, and rifles too although they limit how much ammo you can hold with the rifles.

That limiting seems to be totally arbitrary as well. I know a guy who's into WWII reconstructions and he got a .303 rifle and needed a firearms certificate (FAC). He was allowed to have up to 2000 rounds at a time despite the fact he never fires the thing.

I know another guy who's a pest controller and has a .22 rabbit gun. He's allowed a max of 100 rounds at a time even though he uses the weapon all he time. So he's got the gunsmith on speed dial!

The handgun ban was a knee jerk reaction the the dunblane massacre. It really was a tragic event, but all the handgun ban did was stop the hobbyists. And surprise surprise since the ban crime committed with illegal pistols and machine guns (which have never been legal) have sky rocketed.

It annoyed me a lot because I just got into pistol shooting when the ban happened and I knew the ban wouldn't stop gun crime. If you're a bank robber do you really care that your gun is illegal? Probably not.

Anyway, don't want to hijack the thread! :D

Yeah Stubear, just get a 12G side x side shotty and cut it down to pistol length...Now there's some fun for ya...:)

Get a good old fashioned Taurus Judge. 45 LC and .410 all in an itty betty 3" barrel.

I had to hand in (for destruction :( ) the .22 my Dad handed down to me with the last lot of knee-jerk bans that went through here. It was a semi-auto so OBVIOUSLY it was a danger to society. Yes I'm still bitter and will hold a grudge towards the sawn-off little pin witt Prime Minister who did this till the day I die. I hope karma does something particularly nasty to his ass.

I hear ya on the pin wit PM brother. As to the sawn off idea...Well I knew this bloke...A mate of a mate so to speak...A long time back now, who tried something like that, and it was a whole heap of fun. Two hands required, and very short range...But fun.

PS. I should add that this was before any kind of licencing system was in place here. Back in the eighties just prior to politics gone rabid against guns.

So true stubear. Knee jerk gun laws put in place in response to crimes only served to reduce the number of recreational shooters in Canada and also now in Finland (went in last month for handguns). It has been a high profile issue in Canada for some time. One of the funny aspects of how the law is designed in Canada is that you can have a 20mm rifle, if the gun is at least 26 inches in overall length. Go figure.

As with the 50 or 338 lapua, you don't have to carry it. just set up and shoot. they will never know where or what is coming at them. Over a Mile the shot can barely be heard much less determine where it is from.
But as has been said. Even with the best scope optic, It is very hard to see and shoot accurately over a mile. That is why trained sniper's/spotters are truely the best of the best. It's not all about pulling the trigger. It's about what else goes into making a great team.
That being said I would love to try the 20mm but as far as owning one?,,,,,, I still stick by the 338 Lapua. IMHO it's my fave!!!!!

^ True enough. I am considering a DSR Precision in .338 rather than .50 just because no ranges have banned them :)

Plus if they hear the shot, even if they can't pick the direction, you obviously missed.

Reminds me of a story Gary (Traveller) once told here. His friend had a purdey shotgun stolen.
He filed a report with the police and a couple of months later he gets a phone call that it was recovered from some gang member who wanted to rob a store or something like that, and he could get it back.

Only numbnuts had sawn off the barrel and the stock.
Total cost of repair was 125000$.
