Just got a new Waterman Hemisphere today for Christmas. I have another Waterman that was given to me by my grandfather, although I'm not sure of the model.

I believe Obie is the fountain pen guru in these parts. I asked for a fountain pen for Christmas, as well, but got a couple tubs of Cella. Which isn't a bad gift at all.
I use some fountain pens, Online for my daily use, but I have a couple mont blancs as well.

Though my fountain pen is a cheap noodlers, I have no complaints. I use it everyday and it's never out of my pocket.
I've got no complaints with it. I love it and it works great, especially for the price. Sure I'd like a bit nicer pen but I probably wait for my commission to buy one.
I used to have a bunch but sold them. Though I always carried one at work I seldom had use for it and when I finally needed to use it the ink had dried. In my college days I used them exclusively but that was a very long time ago. More trouble really than they were worth even though I still love writing with them and high altitude affects them negatively.
I always thought the Waterman's especially the ideal nib was the best. Just the right combination of smoothness and scratchiness.
I've been using Lamy Safari's at work. I have no complaints. They're cheap. No biggie if
I misplace them, I use them daily, no skipping, smooth, nice ink flow with the fine nib.
+1 on the Noodler's. I got a free one with their ink, it works fine as well.
I used to use them all the time but for some reason I have bad luck with them. Or at least my shirt pockets do! lol
Cause when you do things like this to me, it makes it a tough relationship,
a cheap chinese converter means two blue fingers, a blue kneecap,.. blue trail down a calf muscle, and a spot on my foot... and the cat, oh the poor cat has a bit of a blue mohawk im afraid
PSA to all FP users, use quality converters, and flush out your old inks
ugh.... on the plus side, Pelikan edelstien Topaz ink washes off skin fairly easy, not so much cat fur,.. with the claws and the biting... its tough

My daughters cat is black so I don't get in trouble when he gets in the way :p
So i found a shaeffer beginner calligraphy set today, has a tonne of stuff inside it three pens, three removable cursive nibs sizes, and a tonne of ink carts
tried my hand at some gothic scripts after a few tries i didnt do so bad, i Use a Broad cursive nib which i think would be close to a 1.9 or 2.0 its huge and hard to handle the amount of flow but for a few first tries not all that bad (btw Gemma is a friends new rescued puppy, i just wanted to try a G and it was only thing i could think of)

Well its been a while since I used one, but I have been wabting a new one for some time. This morning I wolk up to a great birthday present. A parker 51 which my wife bought me with a little help from justalex.
Geek
That awesome, and Happy Birthday too,.. have any pictures of it yet ? the 51's get such high praise ill have to eventually break down and grab one for myself on of these days
hope you enjoy using it, i didnt have enough reasons to use my fountain pens and loved writing with them enough i picked myself up some pen pals to practice my writings and have an excuse to use them
plus i used to love doing it in grade school
I have two usable fountain pens: a Cross, and a Diplomat. The Diplomat began acting finicky and so I have been using the Cross most of the time. My only beef with using fountain pens is that most paper that I have to deal with is not fountain pen friendly. Paper just isn't what it used to be...sigh...
I have accumulated a dozen over the years and really enjoy them but then, after a few weeks i seem to put them aside, only to pick one up in a few months. Love my Pelican with green ink.
I just started with fountain pens myself. Like syngent, I picked up a pen pal to practice writing with. I love the feel of the pen and how it just glides across the page. Yes, work paper is crappy paper but it's still nicer than writing with a disposable.
Cheers,
M.
That pen of yours writes amazing Rider, i would certainly bring that to work with me everyday feels great and very smooth
I feel kinda old school here because I use an old dip style fountain pen with an old leather bound journal for my thoughts. The cartridge style always flowed to fast for me.
I want to leanr to do spencerian script to use with a dip pen and a vintage flex nib for full effect myself,... christmas cards, post cards and the like are amazing when you take the time for them
theres a website i have to find again its a huge global post card exchange, they give you an address then you send they send back everyone posts when they get one and from where you just keep going till you get 4 or five in the mail a week or so,...
looked like good practice and fun, just came to me its called Postcrossing.com
I made a discovery today.
I was digging about looking for my wifes passport and I looked in a box full of her late fathers things she keeps. There I found 2 old Parker vaccumatics we didn't know were there. Still in good working order. I told my wife and asked if she wanted them cleaned up for her as she is a fountain pen user as well. She said that was a lovely idea and she would like me to use one as well.
I have a great wife.

That's pretty cool mate. Nice find.
Mick
I use a lamy safari, nothing special, just writes really well.
I use the lamy ink but I am thinking about purchasing some noodlers.
One thing I noticed is that sometimes the ink bleeds out of the track that runs down to the point, I have no idea, it does not affect the writing either.
I'm using a Waterman every day actually. I love the feeling of having things that lasts. I just fill it up and I'm ready to go! Besides I love to hand it to customers when they sign a deal. It gives them the little, but important feeling of exclusivity.
Attachment 117398 i forgot to post the photo I snapped at my office in Old Town in Stockholm.
I love fountain pens and use them daily. In fact I can only write with fountain pens, the two main ones I have are my waterman hemisphere (my introduction into slightly more pricier pens) and my daily and most expensive pen being a pelikan souveran with both pens I use bottled ink, lasts longer and is always a conversation starter when filling. Not only that the pelikan only takes bottled ink.
If you want to write, use a pen. If you want to express yourself, use a fountain pen.
It seems fountain pens and straight razors go hand in hand...both are an homage to an earlier time.
My personal, but small stash gets used in a tight rotation and includes one that I inherited from my uncle. It may be more modest than some of the others, but it's the most special to me.
Hey guys. I could go to another forum I used to frequent, but I haven't been there for ages and it feels a little rude just popping up and asking a question; so I'll ask you lot. I have a Swan Mabie Todd I think it is, 40's I think, leverless. I get a lot of leakage and it's getting annoying. It's a really wet nib, and nicely flexible but still nice for everyday stuff. The feed and nib simply pull out of the pen. They do seem to fit back in reasonably tightly, but I'm wondering if it's tight enough and if it needs some sort of method to seal the feed a bit.
Any suggestions to stop the leaking (I think some ink is migrating up the feed (nib creep) but I don't think this fully explains the leakage).
Hmmm...You could have a weak bladder Carl...Nothing to be ashamed of you know...:)
Sorry mate. My way of saying WTF you talking about? Beyond my limited knowledge. I'm an idiot. :)
Mick
Sounds like it needs professional help. If you're so inclined, there is a place in the States that does good work (Fountain Pen Hospital - Celebrating 65 years as the world's showcase of fine writing instruments.). Good luck!
Mick, The bladder is actually new. You know that black rubbery looking thing under the nib? Sometimes it had grooves in it? That's the feed, whereby the ink travels to the nib. Mine is I think not fitting as tightly as it could in to the barrel of the pen. Maybe I could try and get a new feed?
Thanks for the tip about the hospital, Peter. I'd rather not send it so far a field. I could send it to where I got it from which is 'Old Post Office Pens' in Melbourne...

Well I finally have moved up past ink well dip pens into an actual fountain pen.
Aurora Ipsilon
Had to get used to the flow rate. Have to have a fast light hand compared to a dip pen. I like it. It only took an hour and I was adjusted.
In France, you learn to write with a fountain pen. God I missed my fountain pen when I couldn't find cartridges in the US. Anyways, it's back and there's no such thing as writing with a nib which travels so effortlessly on the paper.
I am planing on getting a new one soon. I will have a Meisterstück one day, but in the meantime, I was thinking to upgrade from my good old Parker, which has met with the floor a couple times in his long life, to a Lamy Safari. I heard it's the Proraso of the fountain pen, the amazing value which never disappoints.
Any users around?
Hey gents, who makes a good quality, fast drying blue ink? I'd prefer something a little brighter as opposed to a midnight blue.
I like Noodler's blue ink. They have several different ones, but the bullet proof blue is really great. Bright blue color and dries pretty fast.
