    Default 11/16th Wedges

I have a fondness for the old American made razors, Genco, Case etc. So I thought I'd have a go at making a few Union Spike/Genco Wedge type blades. Did all the roughing out this afternoon on these 4 blades. Pin hole drilling and tang tapering to come.Name: IMG_1253.jpg

Update: Had a few busy days but today did the hardening of the blades. Steel is 52100 which had been normalized at 1625f for 1 hour after grinding. Hardening was 1525f quenched in oil. 400f temper for 1 hour x 2 should give a hardness of approximately 61HRc.

Did the grinding of the blade faces today. Aiming for an edge width of about 8-10 thou at this stage, the first side of the blade face is ground, checking against a square or straight edge to keep things true, then the second side of the blade is ground and the edge checked with a micrometer for even thickness. Primary grinding was done on a 120 grit ceramic belt, then a surface conditioning belt of 220 grit loaded with beeswax was used to clean up the scratches.

Got some more work done today, took the blade faces all the way up to an A16 Trizact belt (approx 1200 grit) and ground the tangs to that same grit also before polishing with a cork belt loaded with grey stainless compound then a leather belt with green rouge. Tang shape was also refined a little more.

I have some large sheets of acrylic but only in black, white and ivory. I've been thinking of ordering a green transparent sheet for a similar look to this:

What diameter wheel do you use for that type of grind? Just getting into the grinding side of things. Have done some knives, grinder died, new one on order from Ameribrade so I am looking to get the correct setup for razors as well.
