Simple fix to the Grizzly G-1015 Knife Grinder
This was a simple fix I came up with to add a 3rd wheel to the Grizzly Knife Grinder..
I looked at the Standard Platen assembly from Grizzly and noted that it had quite a bit of adjustment built into the system already
I ordered a new mount from Grizzly I actually ordered two because my first thought was to weld this together so I figured an extra one to mess up :) They ran $18 for both shipped to the house..
After looking at it a bit I figured out that really it would be better to build a full assembly to hold a 2-4 inch contact wheel that bolted on using the same type of bolts that Grizzly already included... This would allow for more accurate tracking by giving me some adjustment..
I used a 2.5 inch piece of channel steel and welded in two plates with 1/2 inch holes drilled through, the spacing and straightness was held with a stack of washers and a large vice while the welds were made..
I ordered in a 2 inch contact wheel from USA Knifemakers which rides on a 1/2 bolt of course
And now I have the normal Tracking assembly at the top the normal 8 inch or 10 inch contact wheel at the bottom and an adjustable center wheel that can spin a 2-4 inch contact wheel
The whole thing including shipping came to maybe $80 and gives me a ton of new options for re-grinds and cleaning..
