I was looking around at soap making supplies with a view to make a shave soap when in the colouring sections I stumbled upon Chromium oxide powder.
Would this be the same sort of stuff I would want for my strops or is it likely to be of a different grade? If usable, would it need mixing with anything?
Strange i was looking for a source for it last week and couldn't find one in the UK, and I manage to stumble upon it by accident this week.
I am no expert on this but I guess its the same as pigments in paint. Chrome oxide for green, titanium oxide for blue, etc. The stuff would have to be either in liquid form or ground up fine like face powder.
My dad was a painter in the old days when you had to both mix and make your own paint from component parts and he had a big full of all the color pigments.

For those who seem to have difficulties finding a good chromium strop paste, we will soon have one available, imported from Europe.

www.handamerican.com has both dry and premixed chrome oxide in 0.5 micron size. Just what you want.
I bought mine dry, mixed it with oil and rubbed it into the paddle strop. Works great!:)
do a search for "lapidary supplies" in google you should be able to find all the abrasive pastes/powders you'll ever want or need.
