I have been developing my hot lather shaving techniques, and I was wondering whether I could give a gift of a nice shave to friends, relatives, etc. I don't really know how to go about practicing, but I guess the first obstacle is setting up some kind of seating without having to buy a barber chair. Anyone have any experience starting out this kind of thing?

I'm still at the safety razor stage. No worries on the straight-razor side yet.
You could suspend them from the ceiling with rope. Just add more to what you have them tied up with and throw it over a beam. :<0)
If you really want to give shaves .... go to school and do it for a living. A friend of mine did just that. Not the rope thing.
Get a normal chair, make up a headrest, fix on the headrest. Maybe a car seat might work as you would have all the back adjustments.
No matter how you do it easy it ain't. If you have a bad back forget it.
I have done it a number of times,
I use my high back executive computer chair,
it reclines back far enough,
goes to a comfortable working height,
and swivels so I don't have to do to much maneuvering around them.
It is different than doing yourself so be forewarned, effective stretching is easier to figure out though.
