I was wanting to know if you could use this as an alternative to an alum block. from my understanding it is alum, just in stick form used as a deodorant. Its availabe here at walgreens, but the only place to pick up an alum block is online.

Same stuff. Less expensive.

Make sure you read the ingredient list... both kinds should work, but potassium alum is the one traditionally used for shaving purposes, as ammonium alum can sting a good amount more :D
www.tulumba.com has a great deal on alum blocks for shaving...
and ya might try the arko shaving soap while yer at it

Try QED He just came out with a spray a rollon and also and Alum Wide Stick, Love all three. Alum is Alum to me but the Stick format is awesome.
I also use an alum block billed as deodorant but I ordered mine online as I could get it cheaper that way than in any of the stores around here.
I should dig mine up and try it.
This stuff works pretty well as deodorant by the way.

yeah, I kept wondering why it said crystal stick deodorant on the label.:hmmm:
The deodorant works just fine as an A/S product - I find it stings less than the block I also use.
The stick is way more convenient and costs a fraction of what shaving vendors charge for a smaller piece.
My experience is that the alum works fine as a deoderant in cooler weather, but isn't strong enough for those who sweat a lot or hot weather.
