Not sure how much of a role one can play anymore in the vast ocean of wet tubing shaving/grooming advocates and self-proclaimed experts.
How do you plan on doing such advocacy?
Basically doing more of what I've already done. More content on my website, more videos, more presence on SRP, etc. I'm also looking into speaking gigs and some other things related to teaching technique but it's a bit too early to go into that yet. :)Quote:

I think more of what you've already done would be good. I enjoyed your videos on DE shaving in the past. Maybe mentor some people in your area or via SRP.Quote:

You could review the various articles in the library and make improvements.
Those are just a bunch of possibilities, but you can no doubt find other ways to help people with this.
This sounds perfect Mark. I started wet shaving in 2008 and your videos and posts helped me a GREAT deal , they provided the clearest wet shaving education I received.Quote:

My website has been doing quite well over the past few years. In fact I just met with my CPA to sign this year's taxes and he still shakes his head in surprise when he looks at my books: "shaving?!?"
I still monitor the forums (this and others) with a tool I cobbled together (anyone can use it) but I don't post much these days.
I do concentrate on DE shaving because that's what my readers want to know about most. Joe Borrelli does a podcast every other week and does straight razor stuff a fair chunk of the time. Give it a listen.
My own efforts at straight razor shaving have been...less than successful. :( I did figure out a short cut for getting the blade angle better but I just haven't been able to get consistent practice time to get really good at it.
Ive never seen you post up, but have seen traces of you having been around at one time or another. Thanks for commenting and glad to meet ya.

The best way to get the right shaving angle is to adjust and practice until the blade is cutting properly. When in doubt, lower the angle. Training wheels or office clips accomplish nothing.
Just saw this thread for the first time a few days ago. Good to hear your doing well and still encouraging wet shaving.
Heard of using binder clips to aid knife sharpening, but using them for shaving is a new one to me.
Personally my biggest problems with straight shaving were using too much and trying to get a perfect baby smooth shave instead of a comfortable clean shave.
Training wheels for a straight razor! :gaah: Starting to think I have seen everything now but likely not.
I'd tend to go along with post #27. Nothing that about 3 months of every day shaving with a straight razor won't sort out.

Initially it was a plain vanilla Dovo 5/8 extra hollow (made shave-ready by a reputable honer) but I found it much too light and flexible for me. So I bought a Hart Steel 7/8 quarter hollow: I was more successful with that but its sheer size makes maneuvering difficult. Last year I tried again with a Gold Dollar 6/8 that was carefully QC'd and made shave-ready. I actually had the 'best' experience with the GD--less blood and a (slightly) more consistent shave...go figure.Quote:

As for my "go to" DE, I've tried dozens but I seem to gravitate to adjustable razors: initially I loved my Merkur Progress but that got put in the drawer when the Parker Variant came out. The Variant got set aside when I tried a Rex Ambassador. For a non-adjustable DE I really like my Feather AS-D2 (but only with a Feather blade. Using a straight razor demands that type of dedication to learn to use it properly. That is also likely part of the reason DEs/SEs took over from straight razors as the razor of choice for the majority of people until they were displaced by the current multi bladed carts. With each "improved" razor design/type it took less time and determination to gain the skill level to use that particular type of razor.Quote:

There's lots of technique involved in a DE shave, but the OneBlade eliminates all of that. And darn it, I spent a long time refining my technique!:D
The technique requirements of a straight-razor shave are many times greater than the DE or SE, and takes, at least in my experience, a real commitment. After several fits and starts and some unfortunate experiences with a Feather AC shavette, I buckled down, and after about 200 consecutive shaves, it now feels like 'just shaving'.
And as far as the bulldog clips as a training device, that's very clever, although I think some of the custom razor makers here might have a seizure at the thought of clamping a metal clip onto one of their creations! :D
I like the concept of the oneblade. The blades they use are the old feather-type.

Yes, Sharptonn, they're called the Feather FHS, Feather sharpness but thicker and more rigid than the DEs or Artist Club Feathers.
