Kudo's to Cudarunner!

Good evening Gents.

I hope this is the correct forum section to post this message to. I introduced myself a week or so ago. Thanks to everyone who replied. One member offered to hone my new razor for me. I figured, "what the hell", so I sent my new razor off to a strange dude that I met on the internet, sounds like a beginning to a 80's splatter moovie...

Several emails later I have a new friend. I asked Lots of questions, received reasonable answers.

My razor arrived and the first thing he saw were, "sparkles" on the blade. I had noticed a "facet" when I first shaved with it. I don't mean to bash any manufactures here, just telling the facts as they appeared. There was also a "spike" on the heel. see pic, Attachment 229983

My razor was advertised as Shave Ready, see article here. My razor fit into that category, It shaved, to my inexperienced hand, pretty good. Now it glides across my face like no body's business! Fresh out of the mail, I could not perform a cross cut. It just tugged and was not comfortable. I thought it was my inexperience, figured I'd get better. Now I can Crosscut with no problems. After some work, I have a razor that I think will be a keeper...

I'll have to say, I've met a few folks off of SRP and each of you have been gentlemen I appreciate the warmth that I have felt with the welcoming messages.

In closing, Roy, "Cudarunner", is a standup guy, he even sent me two razors in the mail with mine for me to try out... if I like them, (Which I do) we can work something out, (which we will).

My son had my Grandfather's SR and brought it over this evening. I will get it in the mail tomorrow to have it bought back to life.

Yes it is a strange thing when a total stranger offers to help someone with anything let alone offer to hone a razor N/C. Especially in this day and age. With that said I'm glad that you checked the references and trusted in me. The world could use a little more trust.

I'm glad that you liked the work. I'll be honest and as I had posted the Gold Dollars are hit and miss. I've handled many and the heel seems to always needs work and are a major PITA.

I can't say that about your GD. To start with I've Never Handled a Shoulderless GD (never seen one before and I can't find an online picture of another). And it was a breeze to hone. It also held the edge into the higher grits. Nothing wrong with that blade Bubba!

As far as the loaners go, in the past I have been ripped off by loaning and never receiving razors back however I was sure that you would return them. I sent them so you could learn about different grinds and sizes.

I'm really excited to work on your heirloom razor as from the pics it should be a really fine looking piece of shaving gear.

You're off to a good start and once you get this age old art down to where you're comfortable it will be a heartwarming event when as requested that you teach your grown son to use a straight razor! :y
