Mustache wax suggestions please!

I don't see a particular place to post all things related to mustaches...so I will try it here.

I have had a Mustache since my late teens which makes my mustache about 40 years old. I have shaped it differently over the years, but for the last five years at least I am sporting a "Monopoly Man" moustache. I have been using a home made balm of Shea butter and coconut oil for conditioning and Badger Mustache Wax for styling. And generally I am pleased. I recently was browsing through some of my favourite online wet shaving stores and I noticed a number of new Mustache wax offerings. What do you use? Are you pleased with how it is working for you? I would like to try something new...any suggestions?

Forty years ago I had a handlebar mustache and used Pinuad. Worked alright, and wasn't repugnant to me, or to anyone else. When I switched to the Clark Gable pencil mustache I gave up the wax. That the only one I ever tried though. :shrug:

I too have had a Mo for over 40 years, most of the time in short trim.

Movember motivated me to grow it out, and with that the quest for something to shape/hold it...

But this is what works, shocking well, for me.


In the US you can get four tubes for under $3....almost anywhere.

Bacon grease would work if you don't have dogs and never take a nap...otherwise the wake up is shocking at best...

Wax? if you still have some color to your Mo you can use a lot of them. if you Mo is white or very light it looks "odd" on the good days and shocking if you are around any sawdust...
And if you live where it can get warm (Texas) it just sags out..

The glue works for some. Goes on purple but dries clear - but fair warning, it turns purple when damp so that rain thing can be and issue...or a foamy beer..
And how you apply it is very YMMV..
I found out by accident one day that if I just used it to apply and shape with the Mo dry or very close to dry it worked best.

At the least, its a cheap test and you can use the glue stick around the house or give it to the kids, grandkids for a school project if it does not work out...

But I feel your pain, the search for the right "fix" can be daunting..

I recently started using two new products: the first is Got 2B Glued spiking gel. I had to buy a hair dryer to blow dry the goop once it is in the whiskers, but the hold is amazing. I can hang tea cups off the handlebars...just kidding. A small dab will do the trick...just comb it in, create the desired shape and blow dry. An entire tube should last over 20 years. Great stuff...anyone else try this product?

Second is a traditional wax called "Groom" out of Montreal. Wonderful scent and very good hold.

When I get the urge and grow mine out I use a wax called Stache Bomb. It's on the softer side of waxes and I find it pretty easy to use.

Got2B was the last thing I used before the glue stick. In fact that is what I was using when the picture I posted was taken.

Another low cost fix, and all of them are very YMMV...

I have found that Got 2b Glued is not the best product to use when it is snowing or raining hard. It does start to melt...and get mushy.

Whiz if you are interested I tried Fire house dark wax and it is awesome, next I am going to try the firm stuff they sell and see what that does but I enjoyed this brand, it worked well and would hold for 12 hrs while I was at work.

I have tried many waxes and lockharts is hands down the best. Holds great smells great and washes out easy. And it's made in Michigan

The Glue stick turns back to pink when you get it wet...raining, misting, pesky nieces and nephews who (goaded on my by your Daughter) will wet your Mo while you are sleeping on the beach at family outings..or of course a beverage without a Mo Guard will cause your dinning/drinking partners to pause..

Life is about compromise sometimes...

But then we shave with Straight Razors so do we really care what they think?

I use Brooklyn Grooming. It's an organic product, like all of my shaving creams and after shaves.

I used Penhaligons for a while.. great stuff. It's a little softer then the Brooklyn Grooming. Both have really good hold. I use a little hot water on the BG wax to soften it.. not necessary with the Penhaligons. The BG Commando is unscented which is nice if you just want to smell your cologne.
