Default Sitting down an open Razor

Most folks will tell you that you should never leave a razor open, but I don't close mine after a shave to be sure it gets completely dry before closing. This can cause a safety issue with little ones or pets around. So if you do get in this habit be sure you know what and who is around.

In the picture, you can see that the Razor is open as in the standard shaving position. In this position, you can set the razor down on a hard surface without having the edge touch anything. The Tip of the scales and the spine touch. If open only 1/4 of the way as in the way pictures are taken, you will set the handle and edge tip on a hard surface and this could possibly damage the tip. Depending on what surface you are setting it on. Keep in mind that your razor's edge is very delicate. So I go about it in the way until I can strop and get it standing in my Flower Frog for drying.

This is not rocket science and I feel most will learn this quickly. Hope this little info helps someone new to S.R. and remembers to keep in mind who is around. Please store all razors in a safe way. Nobody needs missing fingers!

i leave mine open over the top of an unused Georgia Pottery shave Scuttle, i tend to use the same razor day in and day out for my daily shaves and only change on the weekends. i always liked 24 hours open. but no kids in my house and the wife doesnt like going into my shave den.

I too use the rubberized mesh drawer liner but on top of my bedroom cable box. I put the open razor on it and it has a gentle warm air vent in the top that dries the razor completely before I put it away when I get the next one out to shave.

I almost close mine to about a 45º angle. No way the edge can touch a hard surface that way.

I have a cat who loves to jump up on counters and knock stuff off, so leaving a razor open does not work for me. It would either be bad for the cat or bad for the razor; no joy either way.

I learned my lesson the hard way, the very hard way.

It was my first good razor, a Levi with Takeda Steel and the first time I used it and I set it open on the counter carefully on a very soft thick towel standing up. Then something happened, to this day I still don't know what and it fell against a ceramic mug then slid down it and the entire edge was a mass of microchips.

That was the first and last time something like that ever happened to me. Then to make it worse being a rookie at the time with a little knowledge I thought I could handle it. I was wrong and made a bad situation even worse. The razor sat for years until I learned enough about honing to tackle the job.

So that was two lessons learned.

I like the Cable Box idea Harold. That thing does put out a bit of heat. Unfortunately, that is where the cat likes to lay too. Go figure.

BTW, Thanks for the posts guys. I was afraid this would have been shuffled to the nowhere posts after a few hours. Glad to know others do this and have ways too.

This is my Razors drying. They sit 6 feet up and nothing for a Cat to stand on to get to them.

I always just close mine after drying with tp. Seems to me that there is plenty of air circulation in the scales.

After drying with TP and stropping i leave it almost closed with just the edge protected by the scales.
