I got a newsletter from Geo Trumper the other day and the proudly claim they were the technical advisors for the Sweeney Todd Movie. Considering the way he handles the razors in that movie I would not be advertising that fact if I were them.

Here Here.......good thing the blades were dull or he would have cut through a ton of strops.........:w

I noticed the poor strop usage and I am a newbie! I think the Sweeney Todd movie will scare more people off using a straight then encourage them to do so.
Maybe I have seen too many gory movies in my day, but I have to admit Sweeney Todd is what inspired me to start looking into straights. Heh now i gotta go back and re-watch it, so I know what not to do.
Would any of you guys like to point me in the direction of this movie? Thanks.
A Ha. Well that just goes to show how much TV/Movies I watch. Thanks.
"Yes! Benjamin Barker!!!" <End of evil judge...> :w
Maybe Jonny Depp just has hands on him like feet.
Just watched it yesterday. No-one said anything about it being a musical!!
Anyhoo, I think most of his customers would welcome the relief of having their throats slit after the horrendous shaves they must get.
Shame Trumpers, Shame!
James.
Since it's based on the Broadway musical, people probably figured that bit was tacit.
Since Sweeny Todd more people have been asking me about straights or referencing the movie when I mention I use them (although I started shortly after the movie was released, so that may be part of it). I think there will definitely be an upsurge from it. At the same time, if you've never stropped a blade, you wouldn't notice which way Sweeny & Pirelli place the blade.
Probably trumpers paid a hefty fee to have the title of technical advisor without ever realizing what a joke it was. reminds me many years ago when American Motors sold a car called the Matador. When they tried to sell the car in Latin America someone tapped them on the soulder and told them matador means in the strictest sense killer. Nice driving around in in your new 2009 Chevy Killer eh?
Never heard about the Matador. I know that Chevrolet was wondering why the Nova didn't sell south of the border before someone pointed out that "no va" means "it doesn't go"
Technical advisor was probably little more than making sure the props were appropriate to the period, the use of the props...
Sorry to further the :OT, but this is a mythQuote:

I have been interested in getting into straight shaving long before sweeny todd, but I have to admit it was Sweeny that spured me to acctually start doing some research and take the next step.
I saw the movie yesterday and was wondering if someone was going to market the Sweeney Todd razors like Rambo knives are marketed. I did a search and found this great discussion on how the stage razors were created
http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic...30&start=0
I was curious if anyone was thinking of buying one of the replica razors and modding it into a usable, shavable razor. Thought it might be a neat idea, cause they are pretty nice looking.

I highly doubt that the blade is usable as it was made for its looks, not its function. If you really want this to be a usable razor, you'll probably have to put a real blade into the prop scales.
putting a new blade in is what i meant and just using the scales
why would you have to replace stuff?
That thing is HUGE!!!!:roflmao
I like how those "prop razors" on eBay let the blade through the back of the scales when they are shut. If that were any kind of sharp metal, that wouldn't be happening.
Phill-I missed your eBAY link re the movie razor-I'd been talking about the stage production razor

yeah I deffinetly didnt get the referance (obviously knew he was joking) I have only ever been to two musicals live. So I dont know that much about it.
Oh well
