I'll have a trim and a shave!

I am lucky to know a barber who still uses a straight rxr and gives you a ten minute hot towel facial treatment. BUT, I think he's bucking the system :nono: -- I've visited many barbers who proclaim they are no longer allowed to shave customers with straight rzrs . . . I am a lawyer, and I've reviewed the OHIO barber regulations and I found no prohibitions :y -- unless it relates to the method of sanitization that barbers are required to perform on all babering instruments :hmmm: -- perhaps the barbers belive the effort to sterilize the blade isn't worth the effort :thinking: . If you know of the reason for this decline, maybe we should become a political action group too . . . . let's advocate to return the art to barbering!! :rant: RalphS

No pictures with me, but where I go to college, Flint, Michigan, there is an old-school barber "Dale's Place". Gives good haircuts but no longer shaves as he consideres it a major liability (Just imagine someone jerks their head to look at something, gets a nice slice, and then sues for umpety billion dollars.. If we can have lawsuits about coffee being too hot, I can't imagine what you'd get into with a razor knick).
I remember the first time I went there, he mentioned "there aren't many barbers these days, just a bunch of women who think they can cut hair".

My great grandfather was a barber. Unfortunately I haven't had any luck tracking down razors of his, though my mom has his strop..

Man I forgot all about the tuning forks the barbers used to have, WOW thanks for reminding me of that...
There are actually 2 real barber shops up here in the Boonies,
One is right up the Highway from our place, so yeah I can get a pic of that one...
The other is a downtown shop, and I don't know how much you guys know about Nth Idaho, but this one is a major White Supremacist hang out, so I don't know about getting a pic of that one, :) they might think I'm some kind of government agent :D

One of my favorite childhood barber shops got closed down in my hometown a few years ago. The best and fastest flat top I ever got was from an old man that smoked like a freight train and wore dark sunglasses while he cut hair.

Almost every time I've had a woman cut my hair it's been a terrible disappointment. I almost always cut my own now- it's not worth pain and embarrassment plus $14 for three weeks.

I had forgotten about the entire experience until I read this thread. Funny how a comment can spark a log lost childhood memory. That one took me back to my own son’s age and some fond memories. Unfortunately he will never have that experience although he is fascinated by my shaving with the straight and like to watch me shave.

Well, here's Lou, my barber, cutting my son's hair. I am there once a month or so, and he knows exactly how I want my hair cut. He also gives a killer BBS str8t shave (when I feel like pampering myself ;) ). Man, I love those hot towels.

RayG that is a great photo of your son that I am sure you will charish later on. Its a shame that so few of our kids will get to experence the things we took for granted growing up. Keep posting guys I know I am enjoying the look back!

Tuning forks? explain.

A tuning fork vibrates as it tones. By ringing the tuning fork and then holding it in the shave hand, the blade gently hums and vibrates. Like a shave and massage at the same time. Dad would fall asleep during his shave because it was so relaxing.
