The two wapienca razors I have seen were hollowed, but not fully. I don't understand what comparison you're making regarding honing them: are they more difficult to hone than what?
i thought it might be more difficult to hone if it was a near wedge insted of full hollow grind ..
1/4 ground and relatively easy to hone after someone has put a bevel on them.
If you know how to put a bevel on them this is pretty easy too. (if you don't it is not so easy but doable if you don't mind making a mess)
Unless it is a bit warped or the steel on the edge is soft and you have to take extra off
Personally I believe wapi's are perfect for making a mess with they are good but not great and inexpensive. Hone the poop out of them and learn what works for you.

This may not apply to the "new" Wapis, but there's some good info in the original thread here.

wow ,,these seem to be highly regarded ..
glad im getting one now ..thanks for your help
+1 on the 1/4 hollow. Wapis have been the easiest to hone in my experience. They respond really well to the typical pyramid method.
1/4 hollow? I always thought they were 1/2 hollow.
My bad... :-(
/me runs to get a pair of glasses.
