Straights on food network

On the show "Good Eats" last night, host Alton Brown told the "story" of his great grandfather who lived in London and started cooking in a pie shop under a barber shop, owned by a Mr. Todd. It was obviously a joke, but when the great grandfather needed some sharp knives, Mr. Todd was happy to volunteer a few of his razors to the host, who then used it to cut pork. Also, Mr. Todd was kind enough to use his two razors to chop assorted vegetables for the host. It was kinda upsetting to watch, but still fun and funny.

I like Alton. Can't wait to buy his "Feasting on Ashphalt" series. The wife and I research places to go eat and then go there. Last year we rode, by motorcycle, to West Seneca New York for a Roast Beef on Wec'. Great ride and great food.

I agree that is was a great episode, although I also felt myself thinking... "how can he do that to his blade!"


In other AB news.... did anybody see the old rerun of his meatloaf episode a few nights ago? I hadn't noticed it before, but when he puts the glaze on his meatloaf, it sure looks like he is using a white handled, silver tipped badged brush to apply the glaze. Anybody else see that?

You gotta love Alton. I have the first & second season on dvd. I love the BMW 1200 RT motorcycles they ride across the country.

Yeah, he is a hoot. Very entertaining. I haven't learned a lot about recipes from him. But I have learned a heck of a lot about the chemistry of and physics cooking...

Yeah, I actually noticed that about the brush too! It really did seem like he was using a shave brush to put the meatloaf glaze on, and I remember seeing it on Food Network and thinking the same thing (I watch Food Network a lot lol).
