Went for my weekly cut today. Yes I get my haircut weekly, mown pretty low so I need a trim every week.
Bill, my usual Barber is gone. Gary, owner of the shop says extended leave, most likely though he'll retire while out and not come back. Health reasons, sudden and unexpetced.
Anyway here's what I found out. It's a 4 chair shop and the other 3 definitely use a disposable shavette type blade. Gary, the owner, said he was 99% sure Bill was using a straight, as he never ordered blades as the other 3 did from their supply person, and was also seen stropping and honing.
They are not aware of a law preventing the use of straights in Ohio. Gary's answer was that none of them (meaning he or the other 3) "had the balls" to use them. He also commented that another previous barber whose name was Gerry also used a straight when he was there years ago, and was not very good at maintaining the blade and was constantly nicking and cutting customer's faces, necks, heads etc. (Which also had the other 3 even more against using one)
I go to the shop every week, if I hear anything else or see Bill I'll let everyone know.
