Best way to learn to shave others?

Okay, so as some of you may know, my wedding is quickly approaching (June 27th). I was thinking it might be a neat idea to give my groomsmen a straight shave before the ceremony.

First of all, does anyone else thing this is a neat idea, or is it just me?

Secondly, does anyone have any suggestions on how I could learn to shave another effectively? As much as leaving them covered in razor burn and blood would make me appear all the more handsome at the wedding, these people are after all my friends. ;)

I honestly think the best way to learn to shave someone else is to....well, try and shave someone else! I think that would be the best experience for you, as long as you have some very trusting friends that would be willing to put their face on the line!

You want all your groomsmen to get a straight shave before the wedding; have you considered finding a nice barbershop that gives straight shaves? You could always just treat all your groomsmen to a nice straight shave at a shop.

I don't think you want to mess up with other people's face on the day of the wedding :P
As Dave said I would try to find a barber to do it instead. They might not be your friends for too long if you give them a nice scar.

I recall that somebody on this forum did exactly that and the result was badly shaven, sore guests at the wedding.:chop:

Give the barber a dry run if you take that option.

I'll try to find a barbershop that does shaves. Though I'll have to go test them out myself first, I've noticed a number of people here have had bad experiences with the barbershop shaves.

I recall that barber's manuals used to say that until you could shave a balloon without popping it don't shave anyone else.

I had the opportunity to shave my brother once. It was a nice experience, but I was already proficient in shaving myself... However, it was tough and very tiring. I don't know how many groomsmen you have... but the plural suggests that you might have at least two. You will be very tired after that, I reckon. I also suggest finding a nice barber that does straight shaves and treat your buddies to that... If you have never done this before, I'd avoiding it completely.
If I were in your position I'd find a "old-school" baber that is familiar with "real" straight razors and get him to go to your house. That way he could shave you guys while you could smoke and talk as if you were in olden smoking days! That would be grand! :D And there would be little risk of razor burn, nicks and you just might "win" a razor, or a hone or something...
