Question on razor widths
Hi:
I have a TI 5/8ths that's closer to 6/8ths in width, so it seems like some TIs are oversized when compared to spec. Is this standard practice, or is it manufacturer dependent? For example the Dubl Ducks (Goldedege/Wonderedge) seem to be exactly according to spec. Are Dovos exactly the same as spec also ?
Also, it seems unlikely that you would lose an 1/8th of an inch honing, but I guess this is well within the possibility over several years I guess.
Comments anyone?
best,
Nirmal

I have found most times that the razors are accurate in the width sizes. There are some like Filarmonica and some of the Friodur's I've seen lately that seem to be measured in mm's and actually when you get a 6/8 or 7/8 they are more like 7/8 and 8/8. Haven'e seen it on a TI before but coool....lol. Lynn

I had 6 Egyptian TI's in my possession, and they varied by as much as 1/8 of an inch in one of them. Usually far less, but seeing a 1/16 or 1/32 inch varience even on different ends of the blade was not unusual.
TI's are not mass produced the way other razors are, so you are apt to see a bit more variance in them than with other razors.
The scroll Egyptians also come with a larger diamond shaped spine that adds 1/8 to the width if measuring from the spine instead of the beginning of the grind. I like that in a razor! :o) So their 5/8 Egyptian scroll is actually a 6/8 if measured from the spine. You see that in some other razors with large fancy spines from other manufacturers as well.

I only ended up keeping 3 of them Lynn...was going to trade for some standard 6/8 and 7/8 TIs with blonde horn, but alas, they are out of the 7/8. Oh well. I'll just enjoy the 3 Egyptians I have.
