There must be some around here, just curious as to where people buy stuff. All the main shaving websites Ive seen, like straightrazordesigns, classicshaving.com & craftsman studio are american based.
Are there english ones? The English websites Ive found dont seem to stock hones. Especially Shaptons >.O
Steve Dempster at the Invisible Edge here is highly recommended. They carry TI as well as other razors and supplies and hone a sharp edge.
They dont stock shaptons :(
I haven't tried looking for Shaptons in the UK, but there are certainly plenty of shaving-related sites to visit. You'll find them all through Google.
Some time ago I contacted Shaptonstones.com in the USA and enquired as to whether they had a UK distributor. The answer was "we used to, but not anymore". So I think your best bet is to source elsewhere and risk the VAT hit when delivered.
If your heart is set on Shaptons so be it, but if it's just maintaining a sharp edge you have many alternatives which can be sourced here in the UK. As mentioned above, Steve @ Invisible Edge is certainly approachable for advice.

Although there are a few places to pick things up they often don't know what they're supplying. Steve's probably your best bet for straight related stuff.
Connaught Shaving have served me well for a few things & the service is great. Here's the link. They do a decent range of soaps & creams amongst other things.
As you'll find out, it's far more expensive for us on this side to get our supplies!
my heart is set on shaptons tho thats the problem, ha. Even if I didnt get the shapton, Id get a norton 1k and 4/8k, I have a huge 10k.Quote:

I dont doubt that theres lots of small stores out there, but Ive noticed English shops seem to concentrate on more asthetic things, expensive razors, and stands, and soaps and all the other crap, yet pay little attention to the important stuff like hones and strops and all the cool stuff you see in american stores.Quote:

Yes, that does seem to be the case. I've got a lot of my stuff through the bay, & even better, the classifieds here. Steve does do some beautiful strops, but they're Rolls Royce & proper pricey!
I think just about everything I've got has either come from the highstreet, ebay, antique stores or carboot sales.
All of my hones except my first one have been bought second hand - it's going to be expensive to buy shamptons.
I use Shaving Shack for creams, soaps etc. but they don't stock much in the way of strops and hones. It makes my jaw drop when I see the prices you can get some hones for in the US. Having said that, we have Chocolate Hobnobs and the US don't, so it all evens out.
The UK has the cheapest hone I've seen -- Inigo Jones' Dragon's Tongue Hone. At little more than a tenner I'm not sure even the US can beat that! :)
