My shave of the day 7-20-09 Palmbay, FL

I just got back from my shave of the day. I am down in Florida for a 4 day vacation but didn’t have time for to get a haircut. So I thought, I could grab a haircut and a shave down here. Sure enough, found a spot!
It was different than I was used to.

First he put this “shave cream” on me and added hot shaving cream on top. He used the hot towel to clean everything off. Then he applied hot shaving cream on me. Got his straight razor out and start shaving WTG.
After that was done, he used a damp towel to clean off any residue. Then he got this oil out, never used oil before. He rubbed it into my face and starting shaving ATG with just the oil.

After that was done, he used white powder to absorb the oil; I guess.
Then came out this massage thing. He put towels on my face and started to rub my face with this tool. I can’t say I liked it very much.

Finally he added some liquid to stop the bleeding – I didn’t get cut, but when he went ATG I started bleeding a tad.

Let me add this: a haircut in New Jersey is about $20 without tip. I just paid $10. A shave in the New York City would run $35 - $45. I say NYC because I am unable to find a place in NJ that gives traditional shaves. I gave the guy a $10 tip, $5 for the cut and $5 for the shave. (I like to over tip for fantastic service, if you give me bad service I would usual only tip 4-6%. And once or twice I will admit I didn’t leave a tip at all – the service was horrible)

Anyway…

Over all, it was a good shave. I would have skipped the oil and the massage tool.
