Hello Ladies,
I have been on this board for a short while and was wondering what would women like to see in a razor?
1. Type of blade, wedge, hollow,etc.
2. Length of cutting surface. I have looked around and noticed that 2"-2.5", would shorter be better? Also blade height 4/8-5/8-6/8??
3. What would you like in the area of scales? Designs, inlays, colors.
I am in the process of looking at razors and scales from a woman perspective and would like a bit og feedback.

My personal preference is the 4/8 round point hollow ground blades. 2.5 is the blade cutting surface size. At least 1 side of the tang with jimps is good, both top and bottom jimps are great. I like the small size and light weight of these little razors. I also have a 9/16 that I enjoy using. I can of course use the 6/8 and 7/8 sized blades, but it seems more awkward and blocks my veiw of where I am going with them. As for scales, I don't have any that are custom, but if I did, I'd like MOP inlays in ebony, pink ivory wood, and nearly any highly figured woods. I own 1- 4/8 razor in vintage ivory scales that I like the look and feel of. Nearly all my 4/8 razors seem to be in basic black dresses.

I prefer round points, but that mainly due to me not being able to stop filleting my calf, hehehehe
I have also only used full hollows so far and do like them.
As to depth, I like the 5/8 and 6/8 ,length depends entirely on what you want to shave, 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 for the intricate areas seem to work best, standard length works well on the legs.
Scales, I LOVE snakewood. LOL Umm like some of the newer carbon fibre scales - colours for me would be purple, metallics, red, black or natural (eg- horn, MOP or woods).

I am currently making 2 pairs of scales for a gentleman.
One set will be Peruvian walnut with a maple space, and the other one will be curly maple with a cherry or PW spacer.
I am really going to concentrate of providing the ladies with some more choices on scales to be more feminine in nature. So please give me all the examples of choices so I have a good idea on what to make.

I like lacewood, mahogany, the pretty marbled acrylics, especially in purple and blues. Hope this helps. :)
I just got a Wade N Butcher 4/8" (Special). I will have it restored with Kingwood and Brass inlays. I am waiting for it to be restored. That will be my first blade.
Hi razorgal!! Kingwood is some beautiful stuff, and with brass inlays to boot? I can't wait to see it when you get it back. I am working right now on a pair of Lacewood and a pair of Purpleheart. I just finished a set in Jatoba and also have some Kempas, Cocobolo and Lyptus in the works.

as i have yet to try my first straight shave ( razor in the mail ) im going by looks alone here. i really enjoy the looks of the spanish point. as for the scales.. i like anything that looks real ( the plastic stuff just seems cheap to me ). any sort of carving or inlays add to the personality of the razor. i would really love anything with a nautical theme ( ships, mermaids, anchors , etc ) i understand any of these custom scales would add to the price but i think they would be very beautiful to look at & use. i like the feel of more organic materials ( bone, wood, etc. ) i think contrast between the blade & scale is nice. hope this helps at least a little.
