Lather Problem Solved

Until a few days ago, my lather was nothing to write home about. It is much better now. Possibly, my tale will be helpful to someone...

Typically, my lather has been thick and almost creamy. It was OK when starting, but got a little too thick toward the end of the shave. Not too bad. But, definitely not the lather I see in videos and read about.

I chalked it up to cheap shave soap. But, when the problem persisted even after I bought some Mitchell's Wool Fat I knew something was wrong.

On a hunch, I got out an empty shave soap bowl. I worked up a good gob of lather in the bowl with the Mitchell's Wool Fat, as I always do, coating the brush with thick lather. Then, I put all the lather on my brush into the empty bowl.

From that point on, I never went back to my Mitchell's Wool Fat bowl for more soap. I added a little more water to my brush, and really whipped the "empty" bowl of suds. Then, applied to my face. I got great suds, light and wet. And, the soap didn't thicken up toward the end of my shave.

I was just using too much soap!

(Now that I know my mistake, I might be able to change my procedure and use just one mug; the mug with the Mitchell's Wool fat.)

I'm embarrassed at taking so long to figure this out!
