question about razor packaging

I am seeking further assistance with my project. I need to know (since i still haven't bought a razor) what the material that you commonly see razors cased in is made from. like this one http://straightrazorpalace.com/image...lumacher-1.jpg

Also wondering how does a case like that hold up over the years in a bathroom?


Would a case like the one below be kept in the bathroom too? I would imagine the steamy environment could become a problem for the wood. I had thought of doing something out of wood for my packaging but the idea was nixed because we all figured the wood would start to mold and ruin the whole case.

And if someone wants to sell me a cheap razor that is in reasonable quality I'm looking. Other things such as hones/stropes will be needed too.

Most of the cases of the type you picture are made out of cardboard with a fiber type treatment probably a plastic or in the older ones shellac coated. Most have held up pretty well over the years but I think most of us don't keep the razors in the original box once we start using them.

For the most part it is recommended not to keep razors in the bathroom since moisture and carbon steel don't mix well. I don't see a problem with the wood case as long as its not subjected to constant high humidity and even then it would take many years to deteriorate. Some of the old razors came in plastic cases like the puma's and the DD's came later on in a vinyl plastic sleeve.

If you keep them out of the bathroom you can use any material you like.
