Is it improper technique

I've been using ogalla bay rum aftershave for a while. After I shaved today I used Old Spice. It burned like someone took a torch to my face but then felt better. Is that normal or do I have some stuff to work on?

It is absolutely not normal or appropriate.

I don't know about the newer Ogalla, I have some of the older stuff and its made with Witchazel. I don't know about the newer reformulation. If its still witchazel that's why it doesn't burn.

Ogalala Bay Rum has very little alcohol. I haven't used Old Spice but I'd wager it has quite a bit more alcohol, thus more sting. Sounds like you could use a lighter hand while shaving. If you have to use quite a bit of pressure, then your razor is probably too dull.

I don't think I'm putting that much pressure but I may be using to much. I know the razor's sharp. I think that's my problem. I actually had this problem when I first got the razor back from Glen when he restored it. I just re-honed the razor two or three days ago. It's sharp enough to "pop" hairs off of my arm. It gives me a bbs shave. Any ideas?

The burn is natural. I love it.

If the results of your shaves are already close and comfortable, then either enjoy the burn or use something else

My opinion is that you shouldn't have to adjust an otherwise satisfactory technique for an aftershave product

You also have to understand you are comparing apples and oranges in splashes there...

The Ogallala is one of the mildest as too sting, and the Old Spice is one of the worst....

That is the Thistle razor??? I just got two of them for myself, they are awesome shavers...

Apply while doing large soft gestures like you're playing piano... the "air" should make it more comfy.
