All that stuff is so cool. I wish I had the money to buy all that. And a place to put it.
that is some cool stuff but I thought it was kinda funny that he had a sign that says no shaves but hes got a mug and brush and a strop on the chair
Damn....I need to buy that, open a shop and...well, I don't really want to give haircuts....or shave OTHER people. Hmmm...I guess i don't need it, but it is REALLY cool.
Jeez,5 Grand and there aint ONE straight razor included?
Great looking pictures...Thanks for sharing,,,,I have just one comment.....
I find it hilarious that there is a sign with "NO SHAVES",,,,,yet they have a strop hanging from the chair, COOL!!!
Great pics. Those chairs look barely used. Thought it was funny that the chair that has the "no shaves" sign behind it, is the one that has the strop hanging.
Just for conversation's sake ...
My barber mentioned to me in passing once that it is a law that a barber shop must have a strop.
His strop is completely worn through and is in need of replacement. When I asked him about a replacement, he simply answered, "Why?".
Cool link, though.
Ooh, those barber chairs are sweet. I saw one of those same exact strops in an antique store about three months ago. The "Deep Cut" pattern on the back of that strop is a diamond pattern like other vintage "Russian" shell strops, but instead of an indented pressed pattern, it's actually sliced (and quite deeply) in a diamond pattern. This diamond sliced backside makes the strop very flexible.

Those barber chairs look EXACTLY like the barber chairs at the shop I used to got to when I was a little kid. I used to sit on that black pad that you lay across the arms.
Man...now I'm feeling all nostalgic for it...
I wonder if it's still open? Probably not.
Gentlemen,
Those photographs are priceless, for they paint what once upon a time was the center of the universe.

Being out of context and surroundings... I dunno. They look too contemporary, modern and lost. Maybe that's just me.
The question is, do we have to cope with barbershop acquisition disorders popping up from now on? :D
I'm so pathetic....me want it all .. now. Put it in a bag! Of course, it's like fifty bazillion miles from LA to Rochester. And I don't know thing one about barberin. But those chairs are sooooo cool.
I have to say that if i had the money for all that, the first thing i would do is rip that "no shaves" sign off and throw it in the ocean.:gwh:
