Seriously, I'm hoping there is enough blade left to make this one into a good looking user... of course one never knows til it's in ones hands. Still, I think it was a fair enough price for this razor. When I first saw it, I began making plans for a set of custom scales but looking at it now, it almost seems a shame considering the ones that are on it. Does anyone have a suggestion on how best to clean these kinds of scales? Would it really be a bad idea to put a new set of scales on this razor? Have I gone completly mad? :D

Dude, what are you smoking?lol. That looks like a beautiful razor from the pics. I wouldn't change the scales unless you really don't like the ones on it. As for cleaning the scales, I don't know. Just my $.02 .

That's a beautiful razor! Pick up some Maas from Walgreens or Wal-Mart (in their cleaning products isle by the other metal polishing products) and use it with a toothbrush. You'll be amazed how those scales will clean up.

I had an identical razor and the scales were a very hrad rubber like material, possibly Gutta Percha. be very careful cleaning them lest the disintegrate right before your eyes.
I simply washed mine and they changed colors to a sickly green. An application of furnature oil brought them back to a blackish color again but they were never the same.

Go slowly with any scale resotration.

If the your scales are rubber they will smell like rubber. Tony, I too have one razor with black rubber scales that change color. Mineral oil is nice on them,
