Using a Straight

Do you use a straight razor every day?

Right now I'd have to say only when I feel like it. Speed is a large factor during the week, On the weekend it's more of "do I have something sharp enough"?

I'm still not at the point where I can improve on my DE shaves with a straight so I save the straight shaves for the weekend.

Only three or four full shaves per week and I tend to miss a day or two entirely, but otherwise daily. :D

I use a real razor (i.e., a straight) whenever I shave, but I don't shave every day... Maybe my answer should have been "Every day"? :shrug:

Same as Joe, I use it every time, but I shave every other day...

Every day with rare exception. I don't have any other shaving apparatus in the house except for an old Gillette DE, and to be honest, that thing is more trouble than my straights to prepare for a shave and then clean up afterwards ~ unscrew, insert blade, screw it back together again, and then removing the blade and rinsing/drying, etc. I shave every day for two reasons: I enjoy it and don't want to miss the opportunity, and I find the shave more comfortable with only one days growth. On the ocasion that I nick myself, I'm just shave a little more gingerly in that spot the next day. Two days and it's 100%. If I oversleep (rare) I only do a one-pass shave. ...............Jeff

I usually go for two or three days and then give myself a shave using the straight. I find I enjoy it more that way, anyway. Delaying gratification.

Oh, I shaved with a "safety razor" the other day because I was short on time, and the thing messed up my neck and chin more than a straight razor ever has!

I shave every few days, but I also shave my head. Sounds different, at least I haven't heard many talk about anything but shaving their face, but it's something I've been doing for quite some time w/ a single blade disposable so this is just a natural progression for me. I'm sure I'm not unique, but the forums lean largely towards face shaving, anything else just seems out of place :nono:

I use a straight every day. I sometimes skip a shave on a Saturday or Sunday, but I've used nothing but a str8 since I picked one up. I've disliked using the replacable cartridge razors (M2, M3, ect..) since I started shaving, but really never gave any thought to the alternatives until now. I wish I had started using the str8 sooner. Think of all the money I could have saved on cartridges, that I could have spent on str8s.lol

I'd like to be part of the "Every day group", but unfortunately when I shave with one of my str8s, I do 3 passes and always try for a smooth as glass shave. The downside is I spend 45 minutes to achieve it. Therefore most of my shaves are with a DE.
