STR8 Shaving and Travel

So...I was just curious what others take with them when they travel. I'll be traveling here in the next few weeks but this will be the first time since I started STR8 shaving. Do you all skip some Pre/Post shave items when on the go?

It just seems to me that now that I'm STR8 shaving I have tons of items that I didn't previously have that I need to take on the road.

EDIT: Just to clarify I have no problem taking my (travel) strop, brush, razor, and soap on the road. I was wondering more if people actually take all the witch hazel, after shave lotions and balms, alum blocks etc that they normally use at home.

I travel all the time, and take only the small items I need. If its just for a few days A bar of soap and a razor are all you have to have. Apply lather with your hands. (might even make them soft and supple! Hehe)

If its for a longer trip, all you need is 2 razors, freshly honed, and a strop. Just swap back and forth. Not needing anything more than a stropping should be the rule for a recently honey blade, no?

Its only now that I have more blades to take with me, that I will be traveling and not have to worry about dull shaves. But really, you just need to basics. =)

By car:

• a straight (2 if it's for more than 3 days just in case I nick or ding an edge)
• practice strop (it's a nice travel size)
• sample or small container of cream or soap
• sample or small size container of A/S balm
• Wee Scot brush

By air:

• DE safety razor with one or two extra blades
• Wee Scot brush
• sample or small container of cream or soap
• sample or small size container of A/S balm

I've currently got a post going about the best selection for a traveling razor, Shavette etc. For me I don't like the idea of taking an expensive or irreplaceable SR with me. The idea of a disposable eliminates the need for a strop and if it gets lost or damaged, no big deal. As far as the other goodies; AS, shave stick, travel brush, styptic pencil (doubles as alum block). I forgo the witch hazel.

Since none of my blades are that special, its no big deal to me. Dont you have any less expensive, but good shavers? or are good shaves only from the Quacking Twins and the like?

Just pick up a "traveling razor" or two that you wont be heartbroken over.

Nope, there are many other good SR's out there! I'm thankful that there is such a vast variety of good shavers out there. Picked up a Swedish SR from the classified's the other day, re-scaled it and honed it up...what a great shaver.

No not at all. Some of my best shavers are no-name brands that I picked up on eBay and craigslist (be very very carefull doing that) for $15. I'd just hate to loose them after putting so much time into the restorations.

BTW, I'd love to have a Quacker in the rotation.

What do you do with the blades for the DE? I don't think they will pass security?

They won't pass if you try and "carry on" the items. If you are checking them though it doesn't matter. You can even take a straight if you want to, as long as it's in your checked baggage.
