Now that you are familiar with the word, I need some hep with my movie making.

I have taken some video with one of those cheap JVC dv recorders. I have figured out how to actually take the video, which is a leap in technology for me. Then I went and had to spend $40 for a friggin' cable to hook the camera to my dell 8400. Hey, I've seen how much you guy spend on a Wonderedge, so don't bug me.

I have Dell's program "Windows Movie Maker" installed and was lucky enough to roughly, an I mean roughly, edit about 3 minutes of some stuff I did in the garage. I have a total of an hour's footage, but I need to do this first. I have the file saved. It is in a .wmv format. Here is what I want to do.

I'm sure you guys have seen those web sites with movies you can watch. And I'm not talking about some of those 15-second ones some of you are into neither. I'm talking about the ones that are like on comcast and whatnot. They call one of them "the Fan" or something.

I want to put one of those little 2 inch mini screens with the mini controls on to a web page in one of the cells of a table. Just how do I do that?

As for the windowed media play I'm not 100% sure how that works for sure but let me look this morning and I'll jump back on here with some info before I go to bed. Sound like a plan? If nothing else...you can send me the footage and I can put it into flash format which I believe will be a smaller download than a WMV (not positive about that) but either way we'll get it done for ya. I just got off duty and I'm checking my messages/email/websites/forums right at the moment but I'll get on that as soon as I figure out what's wrong with my router :D

I would love to help, but I have no idea how to put the video on the web site. I can, however, transfer it to PC, edit it, resize in desired size, and recode in any codec available, including professional ones... Only, you have to mail the tape here, in Macedonia...

Gawker... I remember the offer, and I thank you for it. My thought was you may not go back to that other thread to see what I wanted to do. Others who have 2 cents worth may not have picked it up either, so I started a dedicated thread to the question.

I appreciate the code. I think that's what I needed. I will give it a shot later. Today, the wife gets the computer. She decided to work from home today. She works with web development and stuff at Fresno State. I know what you are thinking... why not ask her? Ha... I learned a long time ago not to ask her computer questions. Kinda like a carpenter coming home to a wife who wants woodwork done as soon as he hits the door...

Nenad... I'm gonna try this first. It sounds like what I need. I tried to save the file in a different format, but neither the movie making software nor the windows player would give me other otpions.

OK. Here's a link to a very powerful (free) video software, called VirtualDub. You cannot edit much in it, exept for some trimming and gluing back, that has to be done manually. You cut what you like, save to hd, than glue it back one by one. What you need this for is encoding, i.e. compressing in desired codec (coder-decoder) format. Far best format for movies is XviD, giving highest quality file, with smallest size. The downside is that it doesen't come installed on every PC. Here's a free codec pack, containing almost every codec available...

Install the klight codec pack, edit the movie (in whatever movie editor), save it uncompressed (very large file!), Then open VirtualDub, open file, Ctrl-P (selects video compression), select your compression of choice, Then go File/Save as avi (or hit F7) and there you go, new, smaller video file...

It's a bit more complicated in rality, you have to fiddle with compression settings, but you'll be fine,

Also this goes for anybody else poking around this thread...I'm an amature web designer and I've been building and maintaining websites for about 13 years now. I'm not the penultimate but I'm decent so I'd like to offer my help to anyone who needs it here...all you have to do is ask. And if I don't know how to do it...I have connections who will.

Nenad... this is the message I got about the codec thingie.

It is highly recommended to first uninstall other codec related packages before installing this package. This way your system stays clean and potential problems will be avoided. This installer is able to automatically detect a lot of codec packs and it will ask you if you want to uninstall them.

About the codec's... This is actually a large can of worms, which you might wanna leave closed. The thing is whatever you record, and compress later (and use it on you'r CD, website e.t.c.) you'll want opened on user's PC's... The XviD codec is great tool, but it doesen't come installed on stock Windows PC. So, your users will have to search for codec, and not knowing for what to search, there's little chance they'll find it (and install later). I've downloaded your video file, and with 46 Megs it is not very large for it's size and quality. Another good thing is that it is coded with Microsoft's own WMV codec, standard on Windows PC's. I have tryed to recode it with something better, just to see how small can I make it, but Microsoft has wmv patented, and is not sharing with other software makers. Typical. The codec pack you have downloaded is nice tool, and you might leave it alone for now, until you get more familiar with video compression. As for instalation goes, I am used to screw thing up on my PC (and fix them myself) but I haven't had any problems installing the codec pack. That warning screen is standard procedure, and besides that, it says "This installer is able to automatically detect a lot of codec packs and it will ask you if you want to uninstall them." so it will be fine. If you use virtual dub, leave the files uncoded, raw footage, because if you save them as wmv, Dub won't open them.

As you can see, I've got three mini movies playing. However, when the page opens, all three of them start playing at once. :eek:

What change do I need to make in the code to have it so the viewer starts the show by clicking the play button?
