I live in Los Angeles, and hate these trendy "hairdressers". Now that supercuts charge $15+ tax and tip for a basic mediocre haircut, i refuse to go there. Can anyone recommend an old-fahion barbershop in los angeles? You know, the barber pole outside, hair cut and shave with that good environment. I dont know how many still exist, but I'm sure that a city like LA has to still have a few around.

I don't know what part of LA you live in but a regular haircut at any decent barbershop will run you $13-15. I don't think you'll find much cheaper. I live down by LAX and get my hair cut at Quinn's Barber Shop in Hermosa Beach. Mary Quinn is the owner and she's really great. They have 3 other barbers there but I can't vouch for them since Mary always cuts my hair. I haven't had a shave from them so I can't vouch for that either but their sign says they charge $15 for a shave. Their haircuts are $14 and you also get hot lather and a back-of-the-neck touch up with a Shavette plus about 30-45 seconds worth of neck massage with one of those old fashioned barber shop vibrators that fits over the back of your hand. It's about as old fashioned as you can get in the beach cities. I'm sure there are others but I'm happy where I am so I'm not looking.
There is also Gornik Druckers on Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills that I've heard is supposed to be a really nice old fashioned place along the lines of a British shop, but I suspect they'll charge you quite a bit given their address. I have no experience with them either, but it might be going by for a look. You can Google them and get their location information.
Best thing to do is look through the phone book for barbers in your neighborhood and then go give them a visit. You'll know once you walk in the door if it's the place for you or not.
there is a pretty good one in West Los Angeles on Colorodo or Arizona I think. Really old-fashioned! Try mid Wilshire district and some of the old hotels.
