My Grandfather's Razors
Recently got a package in the mail from my mother, three of my grandfather's razors! They have been sitting in a drawer for awhile (he has been dead for over 45 years). Here are pictures of them as delivered: a Halbard, a clover razor Morley and sons), and a Geo Thegarten. I've cleaned and honed the GT, shaves wonderfully. I'll post the 'after' pics soon.

Those are all really nice, and the sentimental value has to be tremendous. I really like the last one (far right) on the end the best. That is a beautiful razor.
-
Very nice! I agree -- the one on the far right is a looker. It's great to have keepsakes like those.
-
Priceless
Prof,
You have some real treasures there. I wish I had such mementos from my Grandfather. Use and keep them well so the next generation can experience them too.

I agree they are very nice looking razors. Enjoy them...
It's like I have my fathers silvertip badger brush that my mom gave him. I think of them both every time I use it.

Ed...
Great razors. The two on the right are from the late 1800's. Last one is cow bone. Really slick. Looks like the one of the 1893 exposition razors, but can't tell for sure unless I could see it closer.
Keep those little string tags on them with all important info. Grandfather's name, born/died, where he lived, job, etc. That's in case you get hit by a truck, your family won't get them confused with the other hundred razors you have.

Those razors are in great shape. I have my greatgrandfathers razor, but it wasn't taken care of and is not serviceable. It still has a lot of sentimentle value though.

So Cool
That's fantastic Ed. They look well cared for. I trust you'll keep it up. Perhaps one of Vlad's boxes is in order for them or something else to set them apart. Like Bill says, they have a special hereditary value that should be remembered.

Awesome gift from your mother, Ed! You deserve it, having given up one of your own to me. :o When I told my father recently that I'd taken up straight razors, he informed me that he used to have one of his father's, but of course he has no idea where it went. Hopefully, it's just hiding somewhere and he'll surprise me someday like your mom.
Enjoy them, they look great!

I asked my grandmother the other day and she told me my grandfather used to always shave with an electric :( so I won't get surprises like that I'm affraid.

When it comes to shaving and grandparents, I had bad luck. One died waaaay before I was born. I don't even know what he looked like. The other one shaved with cheap disposables. Strange for someone with a French medical degree lol. I saw a great-uncle use an old-sk00l Gilette DE, but that was like 15-20 years ago. I don't know if he still uses it.

Both of my grandfathers were dead before I was born and they didn't save squat from them Dammm

Wow, that's a great find, Ed! Enjoy...
I found my dad's shaver couple of days ago, it is Gillette TTO adjustable, aka The Fat Boy. It is in fair shape, and GREAT shaver... I am skipping couple of days straight shaving just to enjoy this beast... :)

Ed,
Congratulations! :) You are very luck to own these
razors that your Grandfather owned and used.
I own a Morley and it is a fine razor. Use them with pride.
You'll honor your grandfathers memory every time you do.
