so i tried to prolong my shave experience for as long as possible today.. i took a superlong shower.. conditioned my beard.. used baby oil for preshave.. uberlathered.. did a pass and a half.. rinsed with warm water.. tried alum for the first time.. rinsed with cold water.. applied witch hazel.. applied nivea aftershave balm.. then finished with clubman bay rum..
i feel pretty well pampered to excess.. is there anything i missed? could i add any other steps in there?
A glass of 1993 Terredavino Barolo after the Bay Rum...? :D
I like to try to drink a cup of hot,black,coffee during the shave.You just add the word SIP after each of your present steps......
You could always heat up a wrung out towel in the microwave, wrap it around your face after you condition your beard but before you apply pre-shave oil and recline for several minutes in your Barcolounger. :tu

I noticed know one metioned the cigar dipped in cognac resting on the tray for in between stroke puffs,.......I like to play old Jazz during my sessions..very nostalgic and quite relaxing ahh . :nj

When I'm doin a good ole full shave I after shower lather up and cover with a hot towel and sit for a few, I do this maybe three times, then lather again and shave, also after the alum and rerinse an ice cold towel for a few minutes is nice and refreshing, then I do my witch hazel and balms.
Oh and if it's a good relaxing shave a glass of brandy or a beer or a whiskey or your choice at the end.

Before you apply that hot towel saturate it in some thayers witchazel or maybe some quality bay rum aftershave.
You forgot the most important thing. A sacrifice to the shaving gods.
right.. i forgot the hot towel and the bourbon.. i'll try again in a few days.. i'm really aiming for excess on this.. but i think the conditioner in the shower was a waste.. i'm looking forward to the hot towel though.
also.. in case i'm not up for bourbon.. maybe i bag of crisps and a stella artois.

Well instead of the cigar dipped in cognac,you could also do a cigar or cigarillo dipped in Grand Marnier,But I still think you should try the old jazz music. Or Maybe a little Hank Williams senior or Patsy Cline or Nina Simone. The only other thing I could think of is to install a barber chair and have your wife or girlfriend learn how to straight shave you....in a sexy black dress. patsy cline is a good idea.. i was thinking natalie cole. i'm still in need of the barber chair and girlfriend though.. i'll go buy the dress ahead of time.

How about prolonged meditative stropping before and after the shave.
And the night before stropping in anticipation of stropping and shaving in the morning (assuming you shave in the morning).

ps...I'm kind of doing the oppposite to you.
I've been working on making my shaving process simpler and more efficient, including where, when and how the blade goes over my face. (Not for the purpose of rushing my shave though, just something I'm working on because the notion interests me).
