I found this article on the science of shaving published in the 1957 issue of the "Science and Mechanics" magazine...Enjoy.

One fact that stuck out for me in particular is that we tend to lose as much skin as we do hair in shaving (~1/2 mls worth of each)...Page 2

Thanks for the link :)...I did have a link to that article as well...I wasn't able to figure out how to upload a bigger image. Seems like no matter what I did with size/resolution of image when saving, the image size came up small :rant:.

Hahaha!! That article is amazing! I love the bit at the start about straight razors (down the bottom)...

A) "Uncle Louie's straight razor is still the barber's favourite for close-shaving customers. Try using one of these in the bathroom on a Pullman* car for an extra thrill!"

*The 'Pullman' car refers to the railroad carriages manufactured by the Pullman Company in the early 20th century...

A Pullman railway sleeper carriage. Note the bathroom facilities at either end of the carriage! Try straight shaving in there going at 80mph!

On page four third line above the title, 'Grinding off whiskers', I think they mean to say '1.1mm and 1.2mm' not '11mm and 12mm'. 11 and 12mm a day for stubble growth seems just a little too much like Werewolf behaviour to me... :)
The comment about pullman cars made me think there are definate reasons for a safety razor afterall.

Hi Mick,
I noticed that too and as you mentioned is probably a typo. I got a kick out of the "future of shaving" section where they talk about no shaving required...everything will be done with a cream (silicone based) that you rub on and viola!! No brush, no lather...That takes a whole fun out of shaving.

Yes, the cream is not my choice of how shaving will be done. I think it wouldn't be too far off to 'shave' that way (maybe people are doing it already), but I won't be one to ruin a perfectly pleasurable chunk of 'me' time using it.
I found it to be a good and interesting read. Thank-you for posting it.

I think I'll pass. Mick said it...I don;t want anything to detract me from my "me" time in the AM. I am sticking to the traditional method of straight shaving :)
