Besides the risk of damage or theft when flying with a str8, has anyone experienced any delays or interrogations with a str8 in a checked luggage?

If it's checked, then it should not be a problem. However, I would be worried about it getting stolen.
I have flown with it checked and no problem. It wasn't my favorite razor that I took though, just in case.:cool:
Yeah. Next time I travel, I'll just bring a shabby looking good shaver. The M&Y would be a good candidate once I put a good edge on it. It has rubber scales, some pitting and it doesn't look like much, but chances are it will give decent shaves on the go once I give it a more detailed introduction to the Norton.
You guys recommend anything special in a travel strop?
I was figuring my Shavette for travel, but I think its retired. It was the best I could do for a while, but I don't think I'm ever going back.

The last few times I've flown I've just taken my Dovo. It's a good shaver that would be the easiest to replace if it ever 'disappeared' from my checked bag.

I miss the good old days pre 9/11. Before 9/11 i packed my st8 in the toiletry bag and took it on teh plane with me. That way i had my toiletries for a freshen up in the airport (I used to fly loooong distances) The longest i have ever flown is from Philadelphia to Diego Garcia, 26 hours. Now everything has to be checked :cry:

Speaking of which, can you at least take a DE onto a plane?
You can't even take moustache scissors on. Hell, my mom got her fingernail clippers confiscated last time she flew out to visit me, so I'd seriously doubt you could get a DE through.

If you're anything like some people on here who lose them in motel rooms, I won't mention any names (JLSTORM ;) ), Then I'd reccommend a 2" wide genuine leather belt with smooth finish. Wear it the whole trip except when shaving. Strop with the x pattern. be sure to put it on before leaving the motel room ;).Quote:

Ask for thick smooth leather (pulled leather in the shoe store). Most will sell you a 3ft length cut about 3 to 4 inches wide. some will make you get at least a half foot by 3 feet. This will make you 1 to 2 inexpensive travel strops for between 6 to 15 bucks, depending on how much leather they make you buy and how much hardware you put into it.
You don't absolutely need the linen. extra stropping on the leather side will work. If you get leather from the shoe store try to run it between some clean rollers or something, or hold it tight and run it across the corner of a sturdy door jamb several times to smooth out the face and make it more even.
Keep in mind this isn't something I'd use in lieu of a really good strop. It's just something inexpensive that will do the job while travelling and you won't kick yourself in the rear if your luggage is lost or you leave it in the motel room (like . . . oh never mind ;) ).
The first strop I made with pulled leather I cut a handle into the bottom and put 2 grommets in the top and put a shoe string through and just wrapped the shoestring around the door handle.
The 2nd one I made out of the left over leather I got the d ring and the clip and put a braided chord on the end that I can wrap around the door handle. the clip has the pivot that allows me to adjust it so I get an even surface to strop on. I've got one of Tony's strops though so I've got a good one for regular use.
