I am vacationing in rural PA this week and SR shaving came up in several conversations, including a conversation with a professional barber. I noticed that individuals referred to strops as straps. Is this common in other parts of the country/world?

Kind of like you say pa-tot-toe I say pa-tay-toe. Ta-mah- toe, ta-may-toe ...... the only one on this forum, I know of , who says strap is hoglahoo, IIRC. Some parts of the country they call it a toilet and others a commode. A rose by any other name is still a rose. :)
The only people I've ever heard say 'Strap' are those who are unfamiliar with straight-shaving and think that 'Strop' is a spelling mistake.
Sorta like, is it a straight razor or a cutthroat razor ?
I've got a video of Ed Vogel calling it a strap. I reckon he was familiar with straight shaving :p :)
