This is the best pic available. Does this blade show much hone wear ?. It looks slightly worn, the blade at the point/ toe looks slightly less deep than the heal ?.
What do you reckon, anyone. Bill ?.

It looks pretty nicked. There's a big one at the tip, and several smaller ones clearly visible. Who knows what's obscured by the scales...
I'd be inclined to get it if I could see the whole edge. That spot near the tip looks more like a rust spot and even if it's a nick, it won't impede the shaving ability as it's not along the edge. Yeah, the hone wear looks minimal. It should become a nice shaver, but see if you can look at the WHOLE edge.
I'd pass on that one, personally.
Both the blade and the scales look a little rough. If I was buying something like that, I'd be in search of as mint an antique as possible. And I'm not positive, but boxes of that size typically come with two razors. You can see the impression in the felt where one has been, which leaves a lot of room for another.

I've asked the seller to check for nicks etc.
The box I don't care about and I shall make scales for the blade anyway. So really I'm only interested if the blade is salvageable.

I'd get it. I don't see anything there I couldn't hone out. I might be missing something, but I don't see anything major.
Looks like a little work, but it should be doable. Make sure you get a good price though.

Tough crowd here on this razor. The nicks are minimal and shouldn't cause you any trouble. Ilija is correct about the nick on the toe. My opinion about the box is that it won't shave you very well, but it is possibly worth more than the razor. You put the matching set together and you have a great piece of history.

It looks like it still has light to moderate hone wear. It also looks like it would restore nicely.
Well I got a reply. Apparently there is a chunk missing just at the heal, the part you can't see, hidden by the scales.
The explanation for not declaring this, "I though it was part of the design, but the edge is sharp and the razor is pretty good for it's age.".
I have sent them the Bill Ellis Ebay special link. ;)

Too bad I'm not so cautious about razors I buy myself. I just bought a razor that re-used a picture from another razor that I bought last week (different seller on the second razor). I'm nervously waiting for that one in the mail to see just how screwed I am...
I'd have darn sure gotten burned on that one, too. Lesson learned: Be as thorough and careful as Gary. BTW, Gary, I haven't heard...didja get another job?
How much is it going for, I got one of off ebay about a month ago for a few pounds, cost more in postage, the post office is the only ones who make money from ebay.
