How Did You Find This Site?

We sporadically talk about why we choose to shave straight, but I was wondering about the effectiveness of this group in the near vacuum of information out there so here's one for you:

How did you find this sight?

I was doing a lot of preliminary research last early year and went to Yahoo to join all the straight razor groups there and see if I could get the straight(lol) dope. I think it was the second or third day after I found the old yahoo forum that Lynn posted telling everyone to come over to the new site already. He didn't post a link, but a quick search got me here and it was instantly recognisable to me as the best place to share information, hands down. Over 2,200 posts later, I still feel the same way. We all know why we stick around and we're all on the same page there.

Google for me too. I was using a DE at the time and I was obsessed with the idea of using a straight razor but needed some information because I knew absolutely nothing.

Soon...hopefully people will find this site after seing our web address on one of our officially sanctioned SRP jackets :hint hint: ;)

I voted search engine. I found the yahoo srp group via google and joined. I wasn't very active there because I really find yahoo cumbersome to use. Shortly afterwards, this board was started and I haven't looked back since. Well, maybe a peek or two... I do go to the yahoo site about once a month and browse the posts there... and I still find the user interface cumbersome :(. Different strokes for different folks :shrug:

Old and quickly losing what little memory I once had, but I think I found this site via the wetshavers group on MSN and found that site from a wetshaving article I found after a google search on shaving. At the time I was looking for an alternative to my electric razor that met an untimely demise (splattered against a brick wall).

I agree 100% with what you wrote. Except that I only joined the yahoo group after joining the boards here - even though I had known the yahoo group for more than a year before finding srp.com.
The yahoo group's usability was so poor for me that I rarely read and never felt like writing anything. When I found out about srp.com (I guess I must've checked out the group after a long time) I was instantly hooked.

I came from the yahoo group to here.

I might pass on the biscuit thanks x, although it does look more like a scone. Nice serving suggestion, you should be in advertising :D

After clicking on the IE icon thingie on the desktop of my computer, I go to Favorites, then to the SRP link.... :roflmao

Found it after reading in a Dutch business magazine about a journalist (can't remeber which one) that has a weblog on shaving. He wrote about Lynn and had a link to Lynn's shaving video.
If you ask Google to search for Lynn Abrahams and straight razors you find the forum.
I had been shaving w/ straights for 20 years. Shaving wasn't the problem but honing and stropping was. I started from scratch with an inherited razor and loom strop. In the US I had bought an Arkansas surgical black that had been for better and especially worse my only hone. Thanks to the honemeisters of the forum I get better edges and better shaves. So in a couple of months I've learnt more than in the last 20 years.

I learned of it while reading Christopher Moss' basic guide. I'd been trolling around the net for a couple of months, getting some helpful information, some not-so-helpful, and most of it on the shaving itself. Nothing on maintenance or repair. He brought up SRP as the place to be, so I checked it out. I watched Lynn's video on how to shave and in fifteen minutes I learned more about what I had been doing wrong and what I might try to correct it than I had in weeks of searching. I was so impressed I joined the group right away. After only a short time in the forums, it was pretty obvious that talking with you guys and reading your posts with others was a far better means of learning about this thing than bookmarking every static webpage I could find.

Someone mentioned it back in the WetShavers day.
I stopped by - recognized Lynn's name from classic
and have kinda hung around ever since.

Well it usually begins with Google but guess I have to give this site/article credit for the link in the chain prior to SRP. http://www.menessentials.com/oxid.ph...ght_razors.tpl The SRP link was an old link to the Yahoo group which then redirected to here.

I saw SRP mentioned at another website, thefedoralounge.com, while reading a thread about members shaving methods. I now find myself here more than there. :shrug: Thanks for all the great info and discussions!!!:D

After reading some posts I decided to join as the source of information exchange
is vast

I did everything backwards....I bought a straight a few years ago and a strop, went to learn how to use it and joined the yahoo SRP site (I think it was the only game in town then) and then one day we heard there was a Lynn-approved .com coming around, and well, like everyone else, I joined almost as soon as I knew the board was up and running. I guess I should check yahoo from time to time, too.

I got a straight razor cut for my cousins wedding and I wanted to see more info on getting the stuff to possibly do the shave myself after. I looked around and found a straight razor Video on Google (as Randy Placed Lynn's vid up)

Which I then inturn found the site out in the video when he said it. And that is how we met the amazing Pilot ;) and will be seeing him around for many moons to come.
