Revisting the non used razors

I looked into my draw at the razors out of the rotation. I picked up this Aevos that I hadn't used in a while. I ran it over my pasted paddle strop to touch up the edge. I couldn't wait till morning so I showered and stropped it up and shaved. Wow what a great shave. I forgot that this little known brand was one of the best razors I own. It is far from the prettiest but it left my face as smooth as I can remember. In fact I have 2 of them and they are both outstanding shavers. In fact for a while whenever I was on ebay I looked for another. I guess there is more to a razor than just a pretty face:D

Rich, you just gave me another excuse to talk about The Winner! Got it here shipped for under $10, looks like a plain 5/8 (cream celluloid scales, no engraving/etching, roundpoint), but I had it polished, disinfected and honed in under an hour and its shaves are right up there with 2 much better known names. Another great thing about it was that it had virtually no hone wear.

Edit: Speaking of plain lookers... Taylor's Eye Witness (6/8 h.g. round) I got from Tony H. for under $15 shipped, has plain black celluloid scales, a bit of rust/pitting but shaves better than anything else I have in my collection.

This got me to thinking about mine. I have several stashes, and one groupf about 20 is most prominent and gets the most use. But yesterday fished out an 8/8 Henckels Frioudor that was NOS that I hadn't used for a long time. All I had t do was strop it, and was that a sweet shave! I'm moving it into the 20.

My black king is one of the top 3 shavers in my rotation and it's definitely not one of the top names. It outshaves my top name shavers without even breaking a sweat.
