I like 3 pins even on my 6/8s. There's something about'em that shouts "quality".
I thought that 3 pins are used for the top line offerings for all manufacturers. If this is true, the question is like this -
Do you prefer razors that are top of the line or not?
The third pin uses more labor and materials, and helps the scales keep the shape? Not sure what else is achieved by it.
Would there ever be a reason to prefer two?
The 3rd pin can also act as a tang stopper if positioned correctly, that way the blade doesn't whack into the scales when it closes...I think :shrug:Quote:

I'm sure a 'minimalist' would prefer the look of a 2 pin. Also, now that I think of it, some scale designs might look 'busy' with that 3rd middle pin. I have a carved ivory scaled razor that would look odd with a 3rd pin....Quote:

Not that two pins are bad, but having that third pin can shape the scales wonderfully to help the scales do their jo to the utmost. Namely by preventing the blade from contacting the scales while opening and closing, and providing a good taper at the tang for firmness in the open position. It looks a little nicer too, especially with a glass bead around the pin between the scales like Bill does. :D

Three all the way baby:nj
Well, that was a quick bit of market surveying. Thanks all.
Unless the blade is small my scales will be 3 pinned unless asked for otherwise or I'm just feeling plain lazy. :w
I'm scouring bead shops for some nice 3rd pin thingy's.
