Hi All,

I have been "skyping"with Randy Tuttle and Joe Chandler re getting a good finish on my blades. Thanks gents, your help has been invaluable and much appreciated. I'm now getting much better finishes. I prefer the satin just ground look instead of mirror finish and will be putting up a few soon with custom scales.
Of course I have Bill's CD which is my "go to"reference bible. :bow
You guys are a terrific resource. Now if only I could hone worth a damn I would be sorted.

What did I learn ?.

More initial work with 120 grit flap wheels to remove pitting and staining. Then plenty of finger work going up through the grit sizes. Basic and simple but I've got the hang of it now with some good results.
I revisited some blades that still had some staining, now they look freshly ground-ish.
I prefer the ground satin finish instead of the glossy look. Urleebird's blades have a similar finish generally and they look stunning. I'm not up to his standard yet though but getting closer. Well only about 3 lightyears at warp 7 to go.

Yeah, I've been using satin on my blades much more now. I think I still prefer that high-polish to mirror finish, but satin is definitely very nice. Of course, satin finish takes like a fifth of the time it takes for a good mirror finish; so, that's always helpful :)

Got any pictures of your satin finish there gary?
