Almost out of bootcamp!!

I should be shipping out of here Nov 1 to head to A School so hopefully then I will have more time to talk.:y :y :y

I miss my razors and shave soaps and can't wait to get to use them again soon.

School is in Texas so it will be warmer than here in Chicago. The wind here cuts right though whatever you are wearing. The little bit I have got to ride around its a nice place and the people seem to be friendly in the areas I have been. The malls here are HUGE! wow.

Shavethebadger (think thats your screen name) I haven't forgot about the brush and stand. I'll get up with you as soon as I can after I get situated in school.
I can't wait to see it if you are done with it. I should be online tomarrow if you see this by then and are able to post a pic. If not that is no problem.

So have I missed anything good in the world in the past 2 months?? Any cool stories ?

If I can i'll post a pic one day of me in the uniform :D

Welcome back to the word of the living Larry. You haven't missed much other than Bill making a free custom razor for every person who asked for one during a limited time period. A few people were wondering how you were doing down there. Some of us are experimenting with bench hone designs and final results will be posted. Tony started to sell'em, but I'm not sure if they're on the site. How's boot workin' out for ya?

P.S. I was just kidding about free blades from Bill. :D In any case he would not have been able to make the blades for 1000 current members and another 30,000 that would have joined (assuming that the server could have handled the load) if he had another couple of lifetimes lol.

I am doing good. Just can't wait to leave here so I can rejoin the real world lol. Right now I only have time on occasion just to pop in and do quick stuff since I don't have alot of time to spend on a computer.

Lets se...rich had a cast....firestart is now a mod...we have official jackets....the website was moved to a new server....hmmmI cant think of anything else...oh and Gary Foster got married....did I miss anything?:hmmm:

Ahh, bootcamp. When I was in bootcamp, they gave us 10-15 minutes to shave, with edge gel and a mach 3. 10-15 min, not bad, you say? Oh, no shower before. And that 10 min is for the whole division: 80-90 guys and maybe 8 sinks!

Hey buddy don't worry. A-school is alot better. Only problem is some commands wont let you have knives. So a straight razor may be out. But some places really don't care what you have in your barracks room. But life does get better!! I'm sure youre looking forward to grad day.

Forgive me for asking this but I'm new. What branch are you in and what is A-school?

I'll answer for Pitbulls, since he's probably not going to get to a computer again for a while. (Actually I'm really surprised he was able to get online while in bootcamp.) Pitbulls joined the Navy and went to bootcamp right around the time that I joined this forum. I've been in the Navy for almost 3 years.
A-school is a school that the Navy sends you to right after bootcamp for job related training.
I think pitbulls is going to be a seabee, so he'll learn construction related job skills. Seabee's, aside from construction, learn to handle and use all sorts of weapons, because when they are building bridges over rivers they have to be able to defend themselves.

Thanks for the info. My dad and grandfather were both in the Navy. Unfortunately, because of asthma, I never had the honor of serving. In Rhode Island, we used to have a large Seabee unit. I can remember driving past the big statue of the fighting bee for years. I don't know what happened to it but I don't see it anymore.

Not to sound too cliche, but I do want to say thanks to you, Pitbulls and everyone else who is or has worn the uniforms. I'm very grateful that there are people who are willing to sacrifice their time, lives and families.

That is how it is now, but they split the division by starboard and port sides so its only around 40ish guys on 8 sinks. I usually would just get up a bit early and get my shave and brush teeth. Hygiene time sucks in bootcamp lol.

My former chief always had to be a little early because he said the time said is when they want to start and he hated being late or right on time. So I am going to try and remember what he said and stick to it. He inspired me because he is a VERY motivated person and made Cheif in less than 8 years in the Navy (thats E-7)

steve - danno is exactly right on everything said. And there is never a problem with telling a service member thanks. If they say something then they probably have other issues. It makes me feel good that someone can appreciate what military memebers do. So thank you :)

Larry... Great that you are about to enter the fleet. A big change from boot camp but to be honest, now the fun of being in the Navy begins. I was in from 1974 to 1980 so I am sure things are completely different, starting with being able to send an e-mail. Only snail mail back then... :roflmao

Your post reminded me being allowed about 10 minutes to sh**, shower, and shave (with an issued Trac II and Gilette Foamy). Thanks for serving...:tu

Back almost fifteen years ago when I went through basic training at Fort Benning I avoided the morning dogpile in the latrine by finding out who had the last fireguard shift before lights on and asked him to wake me up about fifteen minutes early. So by the time everybody else was just rolling out of their racks I had shaved, brushed my teeth, gotten my "PT's" on and had tightened up my bunk. Although I really missed that extra sleep and I'm more of an Oscar Madison than Mr. Efficiency the effort to be orderly paid off in a smoother existence. THe haircut still sucked, though. :roflmao

I did the same thing as often as possible. It made getting ready in the morning much easier.

I am now in A School and its pretty cool here so far but I have only been here 3 days. I start classes soon and can't wait. PT here is actually harder than bootcamp because we jog 5 miles and then do the pushups and situps etc after that. I still won't have much time to play on the computer, just on liberty time and weekends.

I have got in touch with my parents to get them to send me my shaving stuff among other things so that will be a great day when I get all of that. Probably will only be able to shave with a straight on Sat and Sun though for time reasons.

Has Shavethebadger been on recently? I sent him an email 3 days ago and haven't got a response back yet.

Oh I get 2 weeks leave for Christmas that won't take away from my personal leave days !!:y :cool:

Congrats on not dying in basic! From what I hear, that's a pretty big deal.

Up north, basic training is learning to tend the horses and shovel manure. That and keeping you big hat on straight.

Wichita Falls? Buy a GOOD raincoat. Tornado alley is where you are headed. And I'm jealous. You'll be experiencing some wonderful thunderstorms there. I drove through there once...it was raining so hard I was afraid to stop AND I was afraid to keep driving. Finally found a service station to pull in to. You will love Texas!

I am in a Veterans Day parade today and saturday. The one today was pretty cool because right at the end of it 4 jets did a fly by over head. Fun stuff. Next we go into town in a parade in our dress uniforms and can't wait.
