I had one this morning:
I had just finished shaving one cheek using my free hand over my head to pull the cheek up; probably like we all do.
As I was lowering both hands to switch sides, I bumped the razor with my free hand.
I just managed to catch the razor by the tang between my last two fingers! :y
If I hadn't, I would have ruined an immaculate NOS 5/8 Rudolf Stehlo Rostfrei that I'd gotten from mr-barence.
Moral of the story: Focus Focus Focus
You're a brave man to try to catch a razor! I would have probably been looking for a replacement!

I have cought a couple of falling razors myself, and dropped some too... At first, I always caught them... Then, I imagined slicing tendons or something - and decided it's probably better to let it go and hope for the best / minimal damage. I have fairly quick reflexes and lately when I do catch the razor it's just an instinctive (if / and wrong) reaction before I can think what's best / assess the risks

I didn't catch the razor out of mid-air - instead the razor was knocked loose and I managed to hang onto it with the last two fingers. I don't think I was ever at risk of being cut - it was just natural to try to hang on.
Of course, it could have ended up being my last two fingers - quite literally! :roflmao
I have been straighting for 1 year and I am amazed at the amount of learning that goes on in straight shaving. The plateaus just dont seem to stop. I love it, I always enjoy exploring new ways of preping, shaving, finish shaving etc. I recently purchased a safety razor gillette, I use it for 1st pass and finish with a straight. was thinking of reversing the process to save wear and tear on the dbl. edge process, with the grain with straight againt the grain with the safety razor:) .
I dropped a straight once, luckily it was closed and well built and had no issues or cracks on the scales. I still felt like horribly guilty though!!!

Glad you survived Tom and getting back on topic, yeah...focus..focus..focus.
After all the most dangerous time with a straight is when it isn't against your face.
Thanks for the reminder, complacency has no place in the straight shaving world.
