"Serious Man Skills"

Spent the day with my 20 year old son yesterday and the topic of shaving came up. Well, he was hinting that he needed some shaving supplies, nudge, nudge... What he wanted was disposables.

I've been saving a brand new Renaisance butterfly scale straight razor for him since he was about five or six years old. Figured that someday he might want to follow in the old mans footsteps...

So I suggested he might want to try a straight razor and he says to me, "Oh no, that requires some serious man skills." I just had to grin.

I'll just keep that razor in hiding for a few more years. I'm sure he'll get there.

No time like the present to show him...it's the" man skills" that are learned, understood and mastered..I'm sure he will get the basics down in a hour

These are the times to remember and cherish. It's not every day your son will ask for advise about shaving. My grandson is turning 18 and I have the privilege of getting to introduce him to wet shaving. He thinks he is being primed for a straight razor but I have a brand new Merkur adjustable waiting to give to him on his birthday.
It should be interesting to watch him apply soap the first time. I look forward to each and every "class" because he is preparing to join the US Navy so every minute I get to spend with him will be cherished.

One of the reasons I turned to straight razor is it takes "serious man skills." Don't worry. He will come around. I like the fact that you reserved the razor for your son.

That is a great story.

Truth might be that peer pressure from friends could be at play. I recall years ago having blade envy...do they go up to 11 yet:D

Good moment there...A DE might get him primed to a straight maybe ? Small steps......+1 on saving the razor for him. :)

My son is 29. I've given up, he's a lost cause.
