What type of grind is this?

Hi,

Just wondering what type of grind this is? I'm not sure if it's a full hollow or what?
Or is it the angle of the photo? The second photo just confuses me more.

full hollows often have twin stab like this one too.

It looks like a full hollow grind to me also. I'm not certain what that extra angle near the edge is called but I assume it's intended to add extra rigidity to the edge while maintaining the characteristics of a full hollow. I've noticed this on both my Clauss " new Departure Razor" and a Cattaraugus Cutlery razor.

Sorry for asking, but learning as I go.
So is this sharpened any differently to anything else? Are they harder to sharpen? Do they give a better shave than a standard full hollow?

It's a plain old extra hollow (sometimes called a full hollow). I'm assuming you're confused by the large flat section above the bevel? That's just because the manufacturer used slightly smaller grinding wheel for the secondary hollow. Different manufacturers and models used different combinations of grinding wheels, it's not particularly significant. There is a lot more variety to razor grinds than the nomenclature would lead you to believe.

Sometimes you'll see the opposite effect from this razor, where the secondary grind goes all the way down to the bevel, so you'll see the double stabilizing ribs but the cross section won't show a belly. Both this and the grind you're looking at seem to be fairly common in american razors, but fairly rare elsewhere.

There's also an old grind that I call a fuller grind where the blade is basically a wedge with a single small concave grind in the edge similar in size and location to the secondary grind you see on this razor, but otherwise the profile is that of a wedge. I've only seen this one in sheffield razors.

What I called twin stab: the horizontal lines / ridges right where the blade flows into the tang - intended to give certain rigidity to hollow blades
